Exeat Weekend
I am pleased to report that the girls in the Senior School have settled into the school year and are now focussed on developing strong routines to manage their academic workload and co-curricular activities.
It was fantastic to be a part of the inaugural Year 12 Camp, which was enjoyed by all the girls in attendance. You can find a summary of the camp provided by the SRC Executive later in this newsletter.
Last Friday, Mrs Stephanie Andrews, Head of Global Learning, met with all Year 10 students to discuss our student exchange program as part of the Round Square school program. The student exchange program allows girls to study at another Round Square school in a different country, experiencing a new culture and gaining a unique perspective on the world.
Last weekend, I enjoyed spending time at West Lakes to watch our girls row in the Super Series Regatta 3. It was a very successful weekend for the Wilderness Rowing Club and I congratulate all girls and their coaches on their performances. The First VIII had a strong win in windy conditions to remain undefeated this season. The rowers now look forward to the State Championships this weekend and Super Series Regatta 4, which will be hosted by Wilderness School the next week.
This week, I received a letter from Helen Connolly, Commissioner for Children and Young People, informing me that Natasha Lippett and Willow Rann in Year 11 have successfully been selected to represent SA high school students on this year's South Australian Student Representative Council (SA SRC). This is an excellent opportunity for them to create genuine, student-led change within their communities. Both girls are congratulated on their appointment to this council.
Today, a number of our Year 12 girls took part in the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y) Program at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. The program aims to help teenagers understand risks, choices and consequences and is especially important as they experience more freedom and responsibility, particularly once they obtain their driver's license.
Inaugural Year 12 Camp
In February, we decided to run the unprecedented Year 12 camp, adhering to our Unity & Identity theme. The goal was to foster a supportive community where girls could feel comfortable expressing their identity.
On Saturday, the girls and teachers conquered their fears as they dropped down the 'Big Wedgie', the biggest inflatable slide in the world. In the afternoon, we did various group bonding activities, and each competitive activity targeted unique skill sets, allowing all group members to shine. The night ended with an entertaining quiz run by individual groups before people rolled out their mats and slept side-by-side on the gym floor.
The next day started with an early rise and a bus trip to Woodhouse, where the girls participated in exciting activities such as tube slides, rock climbing, obstacle courses and orienteering. Everyone's teamwork was pushed, but girls were always encouraged by each other and the glory of winning.
We would like to thank Mrs Belinda Arnfield, Mr Ben Manifold and all the teachers who gave up their busy weekends to help us and ensure the camp ran smoothly. We hope this camp becomes a fun tradition for future Year 12s to look forward to!
