Over the past week, the Upper North Hallway has been abuzz with the sound of sewing machines stitching together new creations in our newly composed Sewing Room. The Sewing Room has been set up for girls to drop in and have a go at creating simple items including heat packs, pencil cases and pillows. This week, thanks to the patience and organisation of Housemother, Chris Hill, our girls have been able to get started with making heat packs to learn simple sewing and fabric skills. The Sewing Room will continue to be available to girls after school and after dinner into the evenings.
As the girls become more confident with making heat packs, we are looking towards making a number of these to offer for sale at the upcoming Boarders’ Fashion Parade to further raise money for the girls in Nepal. We are also exploring ways for girls who are passionate about the craft to make their own garments for the fashion parade, with the help of a seamstress later in the term.
Adelaide Festival
With so many festival activities happening in Adelaide at the moment, we are spoilt for choice. On Friday evening a group of girls travelled to Elder Park for the opening of the Adelaide Festival and performance by Spinifex Gum.
Clean Up Australia Day
It was a delight to see our boarders get involved with Clean Up Australia Day. Girls headed out to the Park Lands early on Sunday morning to clean up the local area with Boarding Supervisor, Steph Lord. We were delighted to see the energy, enthusiasm and willingness of boarders to get involved, showing generous service to the community.
