The main objective of the Wilderness School Careers Committee this year is to promote and encourage more students in our community to take advantage of the career education opportunities available to assist with their future study and career decisions.

As a committee, we decided to start by collaborating with Ms Caroline Palmer (Rocco) to organise a series of 8.00am University Guest Speaker sessions, with the bonus of a lovely breakfast provided to all attending. Our school was fortunate to host several informative presentations by interstate universities, including representatives from Bond University, The University of Queensland, Monash University, and ANU (The Australian National University), as well as a Zoom session with The University of Sydney.

The students who attended found these sessions found them to be extremely useful, as summed up by Annecy Cheung (Year 12):

“Having the university guest speaker sessions was a valuable opportunity for us to learn more about each university, as well as the pathways and courses available. I found it helpful being able to chat in person with the university representative to get specific questions answered.”

5 Careers in Environmental Health

As awareness of the link between the environment and health grows, there are several emerging and developing careers in this sector.

Many of these roles focus on better understanding, analysing, and managing health through environmental considerations. Others focus on raising education within specific industries including agriculture and food production.

The field of healthcare and medicine is firmly in the spotlight. With the impact of COVID-19 still moving across our communities, with vaccines and boosters, health has been on our minds!
