As our girls progress through the Junior School, they are offered different opportunities to develop their dispositions. Year Six is a perfect time for our girls to practise their leadership skills. This semester, the girls have been busy inspiring, supporting and caring for their peers, and our Semester One House Captains share the leadership lessons they have learned below.
As the Amaryllis House Captain, I have had many opportunities to show leadership. To me, leadership means being a good role model to younger children and being able to influence others in positive ways. During Sports Day, I showed leadership by guiding my House, encouraging them and supporting them. – Jasmine Lu, Amaryllis House Captain
This semester I had to opportunity to be Amy House Captain with Jasmine. During this time, I got to do three different events: Sports Day, Cross Country and the House Cheers. I have loved cheering on the people in my House, it’s been a great experience. Being a House Captain has improved my confidence in public speaking. I have wanted to be a House Captain since my first House meeting, and it finally happened. I hope that the Amy House Captains in the future have as much fun as I did. – Amelia Rowberry, Amaryllis House Captain
To me, leadership means being independent in our thinking, and making decisions on our own. Leadership is also about taking initiative. An example of this is when we were choosing a song for Sports Day. I think leadership is a very important skill to have. I would love to have a leadership role like House Captain in Middle and Senior School. I would like this role because it has made me more organised. – Zoya Rizwan, Antholiza House Captain
To me, leadership means showing leadership, which is to be respectful, responsible and organised. I had an opportunity to show leadership during Sports Day by leading the House Cheers. I helped everyone in my House get organised for them, and l also led the warm-ups. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone in my House and building a relationship with them. – Jemima Hicks, Antholiza House Captain
Being Semester 1 Carob House Captain has taught me to be a respectful, courageous and fun leader. I have enjoyed working with my House and my Carob House Captain partner, Matilda Burns. Matilda and I have loved working with all the girls from Years 2 to 6. Being House Captain has helped my confidence, particularly when I practise public speaking. – Isla Balestrin, Carob House Captain
I was so excited to be given the opportunity to be a House Captain this year. Leadership, to me, is about being confident, mature and leading by example. It was a privilege to be a leader in significant events such as Cross Country and Sports Day. It taught me the importance of organisation, responsibility and preparation. I had such fun at these events, and I can’t wait to hopefully have the opportunity to be a leader in the Middle and Senior School. – Matilda Burns, Carob House Captain
Being a Cedar House Captain has taught me to be organised and the importance of being a role model to younger students. Leadership, to me, means being inclusive and guiding the younger girls to be stronger and love what they do. I’d love to have a leadership role like this in the future. – Scarlett Desyllas, Cedar House Captain
Being a Cedar House Captain has taught me to be organised and be a better leader. Being a leader, to me, means being inclusive and guiding the younger girls to be stronger and love what they do. I hope that I can continue my leadership journey as I move through the School. – Matilda Kennedy, Cedar House Captain
I was very privileged to be given the opportunity to be the Sparaxis House Captain this Semester. This role has taught me a lot about leadership and has helped me to be more organised. Being a House Captain has let me get to know different people from other year levels. Leadership, to me, means being organised and a good leader to your House. An example of when I showed leadership was when I was warming up my House before Sports Day and Cross Country. I hope I can also get a leadership role like this in the future, because I really enjoyed it. – Sameera Bajhau, Sparaxis House Captain
I had the privilege of being Sparaxis House Captain for Semester 1, and this included Sports Day and Cross Country. This role has given me the opportunity to be more organised and confident. Leadership, to me, is being a role model to other students. I love helping younger girls to be excited about sports. I hope to get another opportunity like this in the future. – Maya Ianella, Sparaxis House Captain
