Stage 2 Solo Performance Recital

On Monday night, we were privileged to see the six young ladies undertaking Stage 2 Solo Performance play their repertoire for their upcoming external assessment.

The following girls were exceptional and really displayed their true and courageous selves as they performed to a small and intimate audience in Hender Hall. We wish them the best of luck as they prepare for the final assessment in Week 8.

  • Evie Archer (Year 11) on piano
  • Eva Barrett (Year 10) playing French horn
  • Alice Jia (Year 11) on piano
  • Isabelle Yu (Year 11) playing cello
  • Suneli Athukorala (Year 11) on piano
  • Jacinta Chronowski-Wong (Year 11) playing clarinet

Gwen Robinson Online Piano Competition

We invite students who currently learn piano to enter this year’s Gwen Robinson Piano Competition, which will be held online due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Details were emailed to all parents and girls last week with instructions on how to register. If you have any questions, please email the Music Office.

Creative Product Design

Year 9 Inspire: Creative Product Design focuses on collaboration with the contemporary art industry. In partnering with a globally-recognised centre of excellence, the Jam Factory, we aim to provide students with the most current, unique design ideas and learn from the best emerging creative talent.

Providing students with a greater understanding of career pathways and enterprise opportunities in craft, design and arts practise in Adelaide, the visit allowed them to view artists working in the Jam Factory’s four studios; metal, furniture, glass, and ceramics.

Supported by ceramic specialists, students learned specific skills in two practical sessions. This included learning the fundamental skills needed to make vessels on the pottery wheel and making flatware using slab construction and mould forming.

In a presentation by studio tenant, Xanthe Murphy, the girls gained an insight into how the organisation has supported her career and creative arts practice. Of particular interest was how the Jam Factory provided her the opportunity to collaborate with Jordan Leeflang, an emerging furniture artist, who has allowed her to grow in her arts practice. Students were also able to view the design process of her ‘Tidelines’ series, from conception to realisation, which will be particularly useful in their preparation for undertaking the development of their own work.

“I enjoyed our visit to the Jam Factory because it was a step into a whole new environment and world of creative opportunities.” Charlotte Williams
“My experience at the Jam Factory was great because I was able to learn so many new techniques and see the way artists work using different materials.” Isabella Abbott

In their upcoming secondary sessions with the Jam Factory’s specialist teachers, students will learn more about appropriate surface treatments of their ceramic designs. They will discuss the science of firing and glazing clay for specific purposes, including the functional properties of materials for food-based ceramic ware.

We look forward to showcasing the student’s progress with the community.
