Welcome to Year 12
As your daughter undertakes her final year at Wilderness, it is important that she considers the courses she enjoys and are prerequisites for her future studies at University.
What we know is that the world of work has changed exponentially over the last few years. There are so many new opportunities for young women to pursue their interests and talents.
My experience as Head of Senior School highlights that the most successful SACE course patterns are where young people follow their passions, interests and strengths. At Wilderness, girls in Year 12 have access to a broad range of choices to enable them to make sure that the pathways they pursue are flexible and are open to change. Young people will change their mind but at the same time we want all girls to achieve the highest level of academic success possible. Their final ATAR is their opportunity to have choice—that is its purpose. We want to make sure that through their ATAR every girl has access to the broadest range of university entry choices and other opportunities when they leave school.
This year, all girls in Year 12 will have the opportunity to meet with a wide range of teachers who are SACE course specialists to assist them with their course choices. Naturally, both Mrs Caroline Palmer, Careers Counsellor, and I will always be available should you wish to meet with us to discuss course selection more deeply.
What I would encourage all girls and their parents to do is to think outside the square and to understand that what we are doing is ‘educating our girls for their future and not our past’ as the world of work is changing. As parents, we must be open to the fact that girls need to choose a broader range of courses to ensure that they are prepared to do their best and to be successful in their personal and professional lives.
Should you have any questions regarding the course selection process, please email me.
