We are incredibly lucky at Wilderness to have such a wonderful group of parents, so it was very special to be able to spoil our mothers on Tuesday 16 May at our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast. The girls thoroughly enjoyed presenting their mums and special guests with handmade gifts and cards before sharing breakfast in the gardens. A lot of time, effort and thoughtfulness went into planning the gifts and they were – of course – created with love for our Wildy mums.
On Thursday 18 May, the entire ELC excitedly embarked on an excursion to see the production of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge at the Dream Big Festival. This performance captivated our curious little minds as a string quartet from the Australian Chamber Orchestra brought Mem Fox’s iconic Australian book to life. The costumes closely resembled the characters, beautifully illustrated by Julie Vivas in the story, making it easy for the girls to follow the performance. It was an exceptional production, but even so, it was undoubtedly outdone by the girls’ excitement about travelling to and from the venue on a bus! Thank you very much to the teachers and parents who made this adventure possible for us.
Building on the incredible literary experience above, on Wednesday 24 May, the ELC girls participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime by reading and enjoying The Speedy Sloth. Organised by the Australian Library and Information Association, every year, a picture book (written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator) is read simultaneously in places around the country. We relished the opportunity to participate, especially given that the activity aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. This learning, like all the above, has permeated its way through the girls’ play and projects.
It has certainly been a busy but fulfilling few weeks!
