It is hard to believe that we are marching towards the end of Term 2 and this week signals the halfway point for our Year 12’s in their academic program. As always, the Senior School is a hive of activity, and it has been a busy week for girls.

National Schools Debating Championships

Devika Mukherjee (10 CAR) has been debating this week with the South Australian Schools’ Debating Team at the National Schools Debating Championships in Hobart. This team is coached by two Wilderness Old Scholars: Madeline McNeil (2017) and Ashwini Ravindran (2018) as well as Devika’s Brother, Shiva. We wish the team and their coaches all the best for their debates.

Open A Touch Football

This week, the Open A Touch Football Team competed in the Secondary Schools State Knock Out Competition. After an undefeated season, the girls played with grit and determination through the round-robin series to make the Grand Final game against Marryatville High School. After defeating Marryatville 3-1 in the pool games, the Wilderness Team fought hard to go down 2 tries to 1. While this was not the end result the girls wanted, they are to be congratulated on their performances this season, and Mr Brad Snell is thanked for his coaching of this team.

International Committee Lunch

On Wednesday, the International Committee held their annual International Student Lunch. Under the guidance of Year 12 student Jenny Chung, the committee ran a wonderful lunch which all the girls enjoyed. The proceeds from this event will support the purchase of oxygen cylinders for the COVID testing centre in Junbesi, which Wilderness in Nepal has funded.

Relationships Day 2021

On Thursday, all Year 11 girls joined Year 11 students from St Peter's College, St Peter's Girls’ School and Walford Anglican School for Girls for Relationships Day. At a time when consent and healthy relationships are at the forefront of discussions, the opportunity for the students to come together and hear the same message from Dr Tessa Opie from ‘inyourskin’ is vital in the ongoing relationship and sexuality education provided by all schools involved. Thank you to St Peter's College for hosting this year’s event.

Year 12 P.A.R.T.Y. Program

Today several of our Year 12 girls attended the P.A.R.T.Y Program (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth) run by the Royal Adelaide Hospital. This program is a worldwide trauma prevention initiative and is the first of its kind to be held within South Australia. The program provided the girls with first-hand experiences highlighting the short and long consequences of excessive alcohol and risk-taking activities.

Year 11 Exams

A reminder that the Year 11 students will begin their Mid-Year Exams on Friday 11 June (Week 8). Girls will be able to remain at home to study for their exams when they are not sitting exams as previously advised.
