This year, Wilderness entered a Year 8/9 and Open girls touch team in the State-Wide Knockout Touch Tournament. The tournament sees the best touch teams compete against each other from across the state for the title of State Champion.

Both our teams competed on the first day in their respective pools. It was a promising result, with both teams qualifying top of their pools with four from four wins.

On Tuesday our Year 8 and 9 girls represented Wilderness in the Statewide Schools Championships Touch Football Finals. They did a fantastic job in the minor round, having won 5 and drawing in 1 match to qualify in the top spot for the final. They then faced St Peters Girls and were victorious 2-1 to claim the School Sport SA Statewide Schools Touch title. Well done girls!

Congratulations to our Open Touch girls for finishing second in the Statewide Schools Touch Championships. Our girls finished top of their pool and qualified for the Grand-final with a strong performance in the Semi-final. In a nail-biting final, our girls fought to the last minute in a 2-1 defeat to Marryatville. We are so proud of our girls’ fantastic season of touch and admirable display of sportsmanship.

I would like to acknowledge and thank Ms Marnie Eddington, Mr Brad Snell and Mr Nick Litchfield for their exceptional contributions to our touch players and program. On behalf of sport, parents and girls, a big thank you to Ms Eddington for her organisation and management of Wilderness Touch this season as the Head Coach.

Water Polo Talent Identification

Congratulations to Olivia Scamoni on her selection for the Water Polo Australia Cadet Talent Identification Camp to be held at the Australian Institute for Sport from Friday 4 to Tuesday 8 June in Canberra. This is a fantastic achievement and rewards Olivia’s hard work and commitment in the pool.

Olivia has been continuing to work away at her water polo over the past few months. It has been challenging as many of the interstate tournaments and competitions the water polo athletes normally train toward have been delayed or cancelled with nothing definite on the horizon but lots of possibilities. Despite this, Olivia’s determination and continuous effort has looked to have paid off. Congratulations Olivia on this wonderful opportunity and recognition.

SAPSASA Success

Recently we have had a number of girls successfully compete for positions in the SAPSASA North Adelaide District Netball and Cross Country Team. SAPSASA is always a highly competitive trialling process open to all students in the district from Years 4-7 that meet the age criteria.

Our Wildy netballers started their internal selections late last term, with two Year 6 students and five Year 7 students being selected for the District Trial. After a long six week process, we are excited to announce that all seven of our Wilderness girls have been successful in making the North Adelaide District Team. Congratulations to our Year 6 girls Poppy Ritchie and Jasmine Brett and our Year 7 girls Caitlin Hardin, Millie Wilson, Annie McMullen, Lily Nicholls and Molly Thomson.

They will compete in the three-day State Netball Tournament next week.

On Monday 24 May, our top runners selected from our Intraschool Cross Country competed in the North Adelaide District Cross Country for a position in the team. The girls were required to run 2000m for the 10 Years event and 3000m for the 11-13 Years events. The 3000m course is approximately 800m further than our school course, so it proved challenging for our runners.

Congratulations to the girls who were placegetters in the events:

  • Girls 10 Years: Tara Salerno (Year 4) - 2nd Place
  • Girls 12 Years: Caitlin Hardin (Year 7) - 1st Place and India Goodall (Year 6) - 2nd Place

Six of our Wilderness girls have been selected to represent the SAPSASA North Adelaide District at the State Cross Country Championships on June 10. Congratulations and best of luck to Tara Salerno (Year 4), India Goodall (Year 6), Margot Tembel (Year 6), Sophie Cardone (Year 6), Bella Pasin (Year 6) and Caitlin Hardin (Year 7).

Sachi Syme

Sachi Syme (Year 11) has been a regular starter this season for the Norwood Redlegs in the SANFL Women’s competition at number 35. An incredibly modest and quiet achiever, Sachi’s achievement as a 16-year old starting in the SANFL competition is outstanding, and we could not be prouder to see her continue to improve each match. The Redlegs finished top of the Minor Premiership and are playing in a do or die Semi-Final this weekend to clinch a qualifying spot in the SANFL Grand Final!

The Redlegs play against the West Adelaide Bloods at their home ground on the Parade at 11.00am. Entry is free, and we encourage our aspiring footballers to cheer Sachi on this Saturday.

On behalf of the Wilderness community, we wish you all the best for this Saturday and look forward to you starting for the Wilderness Senior As soon!

Supporting our Boarders in Sport

Our boarding students are a significant and actively engaged part of our sporting community. Finding transport can be a weekly challenge for some of our girls, and we encourage our families in the Middle and Senior Schools participating in Saturday Sport to consider their availability to provide transport to our boarders.

If your daughter participates in a Saturday Sport, we invite you to register your details in our database via the Microsoft form link. This database will be shared with our boarding house staff to assist girls in sourcing transport to their Saturday matches. We thank you in advance for any support you can provide.
