Last Day of Term 2
As we march towards the end of Term 2, the last two weeks have seen a focus on the School values of Responsible Citizenship and True and Courageous Self.
Last Thursday, we held our annual Reconciliation Assembly. The Assembly was student-led and highlighted the importance of indigenous culture and history in Australia. Local Aboriginal artist David Booth explained the significance of connection to country in the context of reconciliation and enthralled the School community with his skilful didgeridoo performance. Myarn Alden, Anesha Raman, Gabrielle Laurie-Wilson and Zara Hart all shared personal stories about their indigenous backgrounds, which connected beautifully with this year’s theme for Reconciliation Week of ‘More than a Word’. Anesha highlighted that this means that using words to spread awareness is not enough without turning those words into actions and influencing change. The importance of building relationships between the non-Indigenous and Indigenous communities to generate a deeper cultural understanding is essential for change.
Amaryllis Day
Last Friday, Amaryllis held their House Day under the theme of ‘Amy the 80’s’. Big hair, fluro colours and parachute tracksuits were on show as the girls and staff enjoyed a blast from the past. Congratulations to all members of Amaryllis House on a fun and entertaining day.
Jazz at the Gov
Last night it was wonderful to return to The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel for the Jazz at the Gov Concert. During Week 8, we welcomed Ms Jo Lawry and Mr Will Vinson (Internationally acclaimed Jazz artists) as our Musicians in Residence to work with our ensembles and choirs. To be able to share in live music after a 12-month hiatus was incredible. Thank you to the Music Department staff and girls for sharing an amazing night of music and joy.
SONY Camp 2021 – Donations welcomed
After the cancellation of the annual SONY Camp in 2020 due to COVID-19, we are thrilled to announce that Wilderness School and St Peter’s College are again co-hosting the camp at the St Peter’s College Boarding House from Sunday 26 – Tuesday 28 September 2021. The camp involves hosting 15 primary school-aged students who have special needs, with Year 11 students acting as their carers and companions for the three days. The purpose of the camp is to provide these young guests with special memories and some much-needed respite for their parents. On arrival at the camp, parents /caregivers of the campers are provided with a gift basket of care items for their weekend of respite. If you would like to donate items for the 15 baskets, please do not hesitate to contact me via email.
