Round Square schools across the world are raising funds to help Lesego Serolong in her social enterprise, Bee Love Honey. She aims to establish one million beehives in Africa over the next 10 years to increase dwindling bee populations. The project also aims to provide economic opportunities for rural communities by providing employment in beekeeping, while also supporting local farmers who grow crops requiring pollination.

A single beehive costs about $158 Australian dollars, but to train a new beekeeper and provide the equipment and ongoing support required for them to keep around 20 hives costs closer to $2500. The Round Square Committee has started to make beeswax wraps that will be sold to help raise funds for this purpose. More details will follow about how you can buy the wraps to support the work of the Round Square Committee.

Book Cover Competition Takes Off

Middle School Forms this week have been designing a book cover which best represents them as a group. This was a fantastic way to focus on books while getting to know the members of each girl’s Form a little better. The Middle School Library Representatives helped distribute packs of materials to the Forms with criteria. Entries have been judged and the winning Form will be announced next week.

The Library Committee also organised a lunchtime showing of the movie The Mitchells vs. the Machines in The Chrysalis as part of their inclusivity and connection initiative. Thank you to Trishna Ramkumar (Year 12) and Meg McGrath (Year 12) for organising the event with the help of Mrs Emma Phillips.

Glee Week

Next week is Glee Week. It will be wonderful to see the routines created around this year’s theme of ‘Musicals’. Girls will be working hard in their House during Form and lunchtimes to learn the lyrics and choreography in preparation for the performances after lunch next Friday. It is always a special end to Term 2, and this year, after two COVID-interrupted years, we are looking forward to seeing the routines in the original format.

Donations for Anglicare

The Year 9 Carob Form are fundraising and seeking donations for an initiative to support Anglicare.

Anglicare is a non-profit organisation that has been in operation for 150 years, aiming to assist all South Australians in need. They help a variety of causes, including disability support, people experiencing homelessness and foster carers. As part of our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh service, we as a Form have decided to create gift baskets for foster carers who have dedicated their lives to selflessly look after children in their care. They work tirelessly, 24/7, seven days a week and are extremely important figures in the lives of children in the foster care system.

We are asking for members of the Wilderness community to consider donating some items listed below, to make our gift baskets a special experience for the foster carers.

We are seeking items such as chocolates or wine, or gift vouchers for local businesses who can provide a restaurant experience or spa treatment. Any donation would be greatly appreciated as we prepare these care packages for the Anglicare foster carers.

Donations can be dropped off at the Front Office (please label them for Year 9 Carob), or if you have a daughter attending Wilderness, she can drop it off in the Year 9 Carob Form room (The Petrucco Room).
