Over the exeat weekend, our international boarders enjoyed a special trip to Melbourne. Three of these girls, who are currently in Year 12, have had limited opportunity to travel during their time in Australia, due to the restrictions that arose with the COVID-19 pandemic. This short trip to Melbourne over the long weekend was a wonderful opportunity for our international girls to experience more of our spectacular country. Special thanks to the Boarding staff, Ms Vivian Han and Miss Amanda MacLachlan, who accompanied the girls on this trip.

Getting Creative

We were pleased to welcome Clare Valley artist, Holly Geyer back to the Boarding House for a casual collaborative art workshop one Sunday afternoon. Throughout the afternoon, the boarders who came to join Holly got creative with colours, creating layers, drips, shapes and patterns that came together to make two delightful paintings that will decorate the walls of our Boarding House.

The first painting is one that is a constant discovery of something new. With each view it unveils a new image, representation or pattern. We titled it ‘inimitable’—something that is special or so unique, it is impossible to duplicate. The second piece is a beautiful natural-toned artwork that focuses on the patterns and rhythms of our land, its flora and fauna.

These paintings will remain in the Boarding House so that boarders can admire them for years to come. The boarders who contributed will be acknowledged and have their names recorded on the paintings.

Our sewing room continues to host many visitors throughout the week. Housemother, Chris has been busily creating a range of new and simple sewing projects for girls to try. Most recently, girls have been making reusable make-up removers, tote bags, keyring bands, placemats, fabric baskets and the ever-popular heat packs. We have been delighted to see the creativity and enthusiasm that has extended from this initiative.

Year 5 Visit

I was pleased to welcome 48 Year 5 girls to the Boarding House for a brief tour. The Year 5 girls were curious about the space and interested to know why girls would stay at school and what they did on the weekends. The visit was eye-opening for our younger day students as many of them did not know what it meant to be a boarder prior to their visit.
