It has been fantastic to see all school sport commence training this week from Years 1 to 12 with matches and regattas also underway.
Swimming is the sport in focus currently with many events taking place over the next few weeks.
Today we had 24 of our strongest swimmers in Years 4 to 7 compete in the SAPSASA District Carnival Trial. We look forward to sharing the success of these students with you in the coming weeks.
Next Friday 19 February, we are excited to hold our annual Middle and Senior School Swimming Carnival at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. This is a significant event on the School calendar and a fantastic opportunity for girls to showcase their swimming as they represent their House. This year we have secured the use of both pools and will have a pool specifically dedicated to novelty events based on previous year’s feedback. Each girl has received her nomination form this week. We encourage her to find opportunities to compete in any capacity.
Following the results of our Swimming Carnival we look forward to selecting and naming our teams to represent Wilderness at the IGSSA and SAA Swimming events in the coming weeks.
Last weekend Wilderness hosted volleyball games against Immanuel, a tough opponent for our first round of the competition. Our girls played well with tight scoring between the schools across all divisions.
Unfortunately, our tennis was a non-event on Saturday with the majority of matches cancelled due to inclement weather.
Wilderness also hosted the first School Premiership Regatta of the 2021 Racing Season. Congratulations must go to our Wilderness Rowing Committee for still hosting the Regatta in trying conditions for all, as spectators were prohibited from the event.
We were grateful to have our wonderful parents providing food and support for our rowers, assisting them to compete at their best. A special mention must go to our nine Year 8 and 9 crews for placing in the top three in all events – an incredible start to the season and a just reward for their tireless efforts. Our 2nd VIII raced well in their first outing as a crew and will improve considerably in the coming weeks. The 1st VIII crew had an exciting start to their season placing 1st in their heat and 3rd in the A Final with less than 3 seconds separating the top three crews. We wish the rowers the best of luck as they prepare for Head of the River, which is less than six weeks away.
Given so many of our Wilderness girls perform well in individual sport endeavours, we would love to promote these achievements to the community. We encourage you to please email your daughter’s achievements to us.
With an exeat weekend taking place, most sports have this weekend off. However, we wish our touch girls good luck for their first round of matches tomorrow!
