In the spirit of adventurous learning, our Year 7 girls participated in a range of aquatic-based activities with the excitement of new opportunities and challenges on their recent camp.
Within this educational experience, the Year 7’s embraced the beauty of the South Australian landscape and immersed themselves in sunrises and sunsets, sounds of nature’s creatures, and a world that, for some, might have been outside their familiar.
Throughout the week, the girls nurtured the plants at our Crawford property, explored the Coorong and visited Robe and Meningie with a surfboard and sailboat at the ready.
The diverse range of activities enabled our girls to develop their relationships amongst the peers in their Form, where each girl encouraged and supported each other through collaboration and meaningful interactions and reflections.
This five-day program showed our girls’ capacity to be courageous, and it was inspiring to witness their willingness to try new activities and overcome obstacles.
The shared opportunity for teachers and students to be a part of Outdoor Education enables growth in positive relationships and strengthens the responsibility for all to work together to ensure we can all be the best we can be.
‘Sailing was an opportunity for us to be pushed and tackle big winds. It was nice to see everyone involved and giving something new a go.’ - Holly Bahr
‘Camp allowed us to create new friendships and bonds with girls from our Form and other Year 7s who we were able to work with.’ - Stephanie Greenwood
‘Surfing was fun, especially being able to go on your own and try something yourself. There was an excitement to taking risks and being adventurous on the water.’ - Willa MacLachlan

International Women's Day
We began last week, celebrating International Women’s Day, with a wonderful assembly organised by the Year 12 SRC.
Girls across the school were encouraged to take up this year’s theme, ‘choose to challenge’, call out bias, challenge stereotypes and celebrate women’s achievements.
Intercol 2021
This week we have had the excitement of Intercol, this year hosted by Seymour College.
Girls have participated or given their support with enthusiasm at rowing, water polo, volleyball, touch football, tennis, swimming and basketball.
On Tuesday the Intercol Assembly for girls in Years 7-12 was a great warm-up for events with some exceptionally loud cheering!
Cedar Day
Today we enjoyed Cedar Day with a much-loved theme – Pyjama Day.
A huge thanks to all of the Cedar staff and girls for providing a delicious lunch and ‘midnight snacks’.
The Middle and Senior girls loved spending the day in their comfiest attire, particularly knowing that proceeds for the event go to the school we support in Bhadure, Nepal.
REALISE
Today was also particularly exciting for the first group of Year 9 girls to attend the Realise program.
Leaving at 7.00am, the staff and girls set off to board the Spirit of the Coorong on their way to Crawford for three weeks.
In preparation, all of the Year 9 girls have been honing their cooking during their Artemis classes, keeping to a budget, and considering macro and micronutrients.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests skills in writing, reading, spelling, grammar, punctuation and numeracy. The tests will be administered in schools across Australia between Tuesday 11 May to Friday 21 May.
Wilderness girls will participate in the Nationally Coordinated Practice Test (NCPT) on Thursday 25 March at 11.00am.
The NCPT is an opportunity for students and staff to familiarise themselves with the online NAPLAN format and to test schools’ technical capabilities. The NCPT includes an omnibus and a writing test. Results are not published, and families have the opportunity to withdraw their daughter by contacting the school, should they wish.
Collection of Personal Information
Schools are required by law to collect personal information about you and your child, irrespective of whether your child participates in NAPLAN testing. To be advised of how your child’s personal information will be used for NAPLAN testing, please view the Collection Notice located on SEQTA.
Further information about the testing timetable for your daughter’s class will be sent closer to the test dates. In the meantime, please view the NAPLAN tab on SEQTA Engage for more information.
Class Representatives
The Middle School is still looking for a parent or two to nominate for Year 9. If this is something that you would like to do, please email April Ridgway, Director of Communications and Marketing.
