We are down to the final two days of Summer Intercol matches.
Our Touch teams are facing off against Seymour tonight to compete for the Intercol Touch Trophy.
Tomorrow we will see our Volleyball and Division Tennis Teams' final matches as they compete for vital points determining the Summer Intercol Champion.
SSSA Swimming Championships
On Tuesday 2 March, Wilderness competed in the School Sport South Australian (SSSA) B Grade Swimming Championships at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
Students from Years 8 – 12 are eligible to compete and race in age groups, and schools are seeded into grades based on the previous year’s performances.
Points are awarded to each place in the individual divisions and relays for each stroke. Our Wilderness team competed very well throughout the night, placing in most events.
At the conclusion of the event, the Champion Girls and Boys School were announced.
It was an anxious wait as each school announced in reverse order, but an elated feeling as Wilderness was announced as the B Grade Championship winners with 714 points, 110 points ahead of 2nd place.
Congratulations to all who competed, and thank you to the parents who made it out to support the girls.
IGSSA Swimming Championships
This Tuesday saw our swimmers compete in the annual Independent Girls’ School Sport Association (IGSSA) Swimming Championships. There was plenty of excitement building off the back of our recent success at the SSSA B Grade Championships.
Our team was missing some key members due to unavailability and injury, but our girls competed exceptionally well against some of the top swimmers in the State.
Girls raced in individual events and relays in age groups competing for Age Group Championships and the IGSSA Swimming Championship overall title.
Our girls managed to place 2nd in the U13, U14, U15 and U16 Age Group categories and finish 2nd in the overall IGSSA Championship by only 40 points through consistent performances throughout the night.
This also meant the girls were successful in securing the Intercol Swimming win over Seymour, who finished in 4th.
Congratulations to our swimmers on their results, the future for Wildy swimming looks exciting!
SAPSASA District Trials
Congratulations to our 15 Wilderness girls, who were selected to represent us at the SAPSASA North Adelaide District Trials on Tuesday.
Our girls were racing against the top swimmers from each school in the North Adelaide District for places and selection in the District Team to compete at the State Championships.
Congratulations to Katarina Czechowicz (Year 7), Isabella Beaumont (Year 7) and Rachel Chisholm (Year 4) who won their individual events.
Several of our girls also placed in their events, and we are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the final District Team to compete at the State Championships.
South Australian Wakeboarding Champion
Recently, the South Australian Wakeboarding Championships were held in Renmark.
This popular event attracts talented wakeboarders from local and interstate competitions to compete for the State Championship title.
Congratulations to our superstar, Chloe Siebert (Year 9) who won the 10-14 Girl’s State Wakeboarding Championship for the fourth year in a row!
State Athletics
The South Australian State Track and Field Championships were held from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 February at the South Australian Athletics Stadium.
A number of Wilderness girls competed in the event for their respective clubs, and we are delighted to share some of their successes with you.
Mia Cardone (Year 10) placed 2nd in the U18 Long Jump and 3rd in both the U17 Long Jump and Triple Jump events.
Sienna Brown (Year 9) placed 3rd in the U15 Women’s High Jump and made the finals for the 100m and 200m events.
Sasha Hardin (Year 9) placed 3rd in the U16 Women’s 1500m event.
Caitlin Hardin (Year 7) placed 4th in the U14 Women’s 1500m event missing 3rd by just 0.04 of a second.
Congratulations girls on your fantastic results. We look forward to seeing you compete for Wilderness in our upcoming SSSA and IGSSA events during the year.
