Over the weekend, many girls were able to get out and get involved in the various activities offered in the House—including baking, sewing, mini golf and Tree Climb. The autumn weather and rain didn’t dampen the spirits for girls heading out and about for activities this weekend. Thanks to our Boarding House staff – Cass, Abbey and Michelle – for overseeing activities this weekend.

Head of the River

We had a number of boarders representing Wilderness at Head of the River. There were so many girls who were eager to participate in the cheer squad, with more than 25 making the trip to West Lakes. Spirits were high as the girls chanted, waved and splashed the exhausted but elated rowers as they finished racing. Our Second VIII came fourth in their final, and the First VIII claimed second place, with admirable efforts across the board. It was fantastic to see the school morale shared by the staff, parents and students who contributed to the day. Congratulations to all the rowers and rowing families who made it through the season.

It was also inspiring for our girls to meet and hear Molly Goodman speak at Sunday’s awards lunch. Molly graduated from Wilderness in 2010 and was a boarder from Year 8 to Year 12. She is a national champion, a dual Olympian and a world champion after winning the 2017 world title in a coxless four. She stroked the Australian VIII to victory in the Remenham Challenge Cup at the 2018 Henley Royal Regatta and the Australian Women's VIII at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Our eight boarders, who have dedicated time and effort to rowing this season, certainly have a role model to aspire to in Molly.

With so much interest in rowing in our younger years, I am sure that Wilderness Boarding will continue to have a strong presence in the rowing club for years to come.

BOUNCE with St Peters

Our Middle School boarders joined boys from St Peter’s College for an afternoon at BOUNCE. It is wonderful for our younger girls to have opportunities to build connections with other boarding schools in Adelaide and we look forward to similar events with girls' schools and Prince Alfred College in Term 2.
