On Thursday 23 March, 220 students from the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools performed in Grooves on the Green. This event was the students’ first chance to showcase their work for the year, and needless to say, this was a night to remember!
Junior Band’s ‘Popcorn Prelude’ was a crowd favourite with every section getting a chance to pop in this piece. There were features from the flutes, clarinets and saxophones to the trumpets, horn, trombones, basses and percussion.
Concert Band paid homage to the biggest pop concert Adelaide has seen in recent history, with their version of Ed Sheeran’s No. 1 hit ‘Shape of You’.
Victoria Phan (Year 11) stunned with the solo violin arrangement of ‘Nessun Dorma’, with the Senior String Orchestra accompanying her. Following this, they performed the toe-tapping song ‘Vivaldiana’, composed by Peter Martin.
Concluding the concert was the Senior Choir, which is the School's largest ensemble with 89 students across Years 7 – 12; it is at the heart of our vibrant choral program. They performed ‘Together’, composed by Australian band, King & Country, and American artists, Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin. Composed in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tune explores uniting people together and how acts of kindness change the scope of our futures.
"If we are able to unite and support each other… be a neighbour to someone, serve someone, reach out to someone… how might those acts of kindness change the scope of our futures… together?"
The Senior Choir dedicated their performance in loving memory of Mr Gavin Haydn, as the date marked the first anniversary of his passing. Mr Haydn was always willing to serve others, reaching out in whatever capacity possible to help those around him, and always led with kindness.
We must acknowledge and thank the Music staff and ensemble directors for their tireless work throughout the term in preparing our girls to such a high standard, and to the countless others who assisted in bringing this event to life.

AMEB Awards
A huge congratulations to Sonali Jesudason (Year 10) for being selected as the recipient of the AMEB (Australian Musical Examinations Board) Saxophone Grade 6 Prize for 2022. This prestigious prize has been awarded based on Sonali’s outstanding achievement across 2022 and will be formally presented at the upcoming AMEB SA and NT Awards Ceremony on Saturday 15 April in Elder Hall.
This award is the second consecutive honour for Sonali, who won the same prize last year when she completed Grade 5 AMEB. Congratulations is also given to her saxophone tutor, Mr Damien Hurn.
