As we head towards the end of Term 1, the girls have been busy completing assessment tasks and representing the School with pride in the co-curricular arena. I was proud of the way our senior teams performed in the annual Summer Intercol against Seymour College. The sportsmanship, spirit, commitment and grit shown by the Wilderness teams when they came up against stronger Seymour opposition spoke volumes.

Last week, it was wonderful to see so many parents at the Grooves on the Green concert on Memorial Lawn. The weather was perfect and it was fantastic to have this concert back in the annual Music calendar. Well done to all the performers and Music staff for their commitment and dedication. Next term, the Music Department will head off to Mount Gambier for Generations in Jazz, which has not been able to occur for over three years due to COVID-19. I know the girls involved are excited to take part in this amazing festival of music.

This week, the Student Representative Council (SRC) have held Unity Week, starting with a fun assembly on Monday morning. While girls can often get caught up in schoolwork, extra-curricular activities and busy day-to-day events, it is important to stop and acknowledge how powerful collaboration can be and to support others in their personal quests. Well done to the SRC Executive for their range of fun group activities held during lunchtime, which were enjoyed by all in attendance.

Congratulations

Devika Mukherjee (Year 12) was recently named captain of the SA Schools Debating Team. This is Devika’s third year as a member of this team and to be named captain is a wonderful honour.

Yiyao (Sherri) Shi (Year 10) has been selected to represent SA high school students on this year’s South Australian Student Representative Council (SA SRC). A partnership between the Commissioner for Children and Young People and the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) supported by the National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition (NIYEC), the SA SRC is a body of over 160 students in Years 10, 11 and 12 from across the state, working together to create genuine, student-led change within their own communities.

Year 11 Geography Excursion

Last Thursday, our Year 11 Geography class visited Mount Lofty, Cleland, Stirling and Crafers to conduct fieldwork research on the bushfire preparedness of the Adelaide Hills, in preparation for a major summative assessment task.

Road Safety

The distressing incident that occurred at the pedestrian crossing outside of Marryatville High School last week serves as a stark reminder to us about the importance of safety, especially considering that many staff and students enter the School by crossing Northcote and Robe Terrace. All Senior School girls are reminded that they must cross at the pedestrian crossing at all times and carefully check both ways before stepping out onto the road. Parents driving around the School are asked to be vigilant and not complete U-turns on Hawkers Road close to the pedestrian crossing.

End of Term

Please note that on next Thursday 6 April, school will finish at 1.05pm. Girls will be free to leave school for the Easter and term break.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Next week, you will receive your daughter’s Term 1 Report, which will provide an interim progress report as to her academic progress so far.

Parent Teacher Interviews for both the Middle and Senior School will take place at the beginning of Term 2. You will have the opportunity to book interviews on Wednesday 26 April and Tuesday 2 May from 3.45pm to 8.30pm to meet with your daughter’s teachers. An email with information about how to log in and book will be sent next week.

Term 2 will start on Wednesday 26 April due to the ANZAC Day public holiday on Tuesday 25 April.

I take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy term break after what has been a busy term.
