Exeat Weekend
This week, we took our Big Band 1 and 2, Jazz Choir and Jazz Incorporated ensembles to Wizard Tone Studios to experience a professional recording session. We had two purposes for visiting the great studio in Hendon; the first was to have the opportunity to record the repertoire that the students have been working on so diligently this year. These recordings will become part of a special Wildy Generations In Jazz 2022 Podcast in the coming weeks, so keep an eye open for how to listen to this. The second reason for these excursions was to record the full set of repertoire in readiness for this week’s submission for the Generations In Jazz Festival.
Working alongside music producer James Brown at Wizard Tone, the students had a half-day for each ensemble to do a couple of takes and get some great photo shots at the same time!

Artist in Residence 2022
This year’s Artist in Residence is Adelaide-based painter, Hamish Fleming. Hamish will be working with our students in the Art Centre in Week 5 this term and Week 7 in Term 3. When he is not directly working with our Art students, Hamish will be developing his newest series of paintings for an upcoming exhibition, where students can see the evolving process of a contemporary artist.
Hamish predominantly works in the genre of expressive realism, combining more contemporary aspects with the traditional painting forms of still life, landscape and portraiture. His work centres around the potent and unspoken emotional significance of objects, places and people, exploring the nature of human experience and contemporary life.
An exhibition of his artworks will be shown in the Art Centre during his residency and can be viewed between 8.30am-4.00pm on weekdays.
