Exeat Weekend

Winter sport is well underway with our Junior School Netball, Hockey and Minkey teams developing their skills and enjoying the chance to apply these in our Junior School Competition. As always, it is a leadership opportunity for our Middle and Senior School girls to engage with our Junior School girls in umpiring, coaching and mentoring roles.

Our U15 Lacrosse girls had the first playing honours for our Middle and Senior School Sports in the Lacrosse SA competition. The girls have had a promising start to the season with some competitive results producing two wins in the first three matches.

This week we began our first round of IGSSA Winter Sports. Our girls and coaches have been hard at work throughout the first three weeks of term to trial and prepare for our opening matches. It is fantastic to see so many members of our teaching staff taking up coaching roles and encouraging our girls in their co-curricular offerings.

Our Division 1 and 2 Soccer teams played on Wednesday afternoon against Woodcroft and Walford respectively, enjoying their first hit out of the season with the Division 2 girls securing a win over Walford. Our Premier League team played a friendly fixture against Seymour to test some strategy and game play ahead of our Term 3 Intercol fixture.

We wish our AFL, Badminton, Hockey and Netball teams well for their first weekend of fixtures.

Our netballers will be stepping out onto our newly refurbished netball and tennis courts in the Park Lands this season, thanks to State Government funding. We are very grateful for this support, and cannot wait to watch our athletes excel with these facilities.

SSSSA A Grade Swimming Championships

On Thursday, Wilderness was represented by 20 of our strongest swimmers at the SSSSA A Grade Swimming Championships, held at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. This was a significant occasion for Wilderness as it was our first year contesting the A Grade division in several years.

We are delighted to announce that our Wilderness team were outstanding on the night in a closely contested event, managing to place first and take out the A Grade Championships!

This event has been running since 1967 and this is the first time Wilderness has won the A Grade event—a simply magnificent result.

Our swimmers put in enormous effort, training each week behind the scenes with their individual clubs, and this is a very deserving recognition of our talented young group.

Thank you to our girls and parents for their support of Wilderness Swimming. Every girl in every event earned valuable points toward the tally, regardless of placing. We are looking forward to competing in the IGSSA Championships next on Tuesday 31 May.

Sport Information Reminders

Please be reminded that, apart from a start of season reminder email, emails are typically not used to communicate Sport information. If there happens to be late changes, we will use email to contact girls and their families.

Sport information—including draws, venues and playing times—is available through Clipboard and will always be available by 12.00pm the day prior to the match. Each week, our teams are confirmed as quickly as possible following their final training session, before being updated in Clipboard.

A link to the weekly team list is available through the parent information notes in Clipboard by clicking on the fixture for the week.

New Coordinator Welcomes

We are delighted to have recently appointed Ms Tracy Frith to the role of Netball Coordinator and Ms Rebecca Keller as our Lacrosse Coordinator. Both Tracy and Rebecca are registered teachers and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective roles.

We look forward to their positive influence enriching the girls' experience and trust they will be warmly welcomed into our community.

Coming Up Next Week

Next week, several Wilderness teams will compete in their respective representative competitions.

Monday will see our selected girls in Years 4-6 compete at the North Adelaide District SAPSASA Cross Country. Our girls will compete in their age groups against the top District schools for selection in the North Adelaide team to contest the SAPSASA State Championships in June.

Tuesday sees a double header with our IGSSA Swimming team looking to continue their SSSSA results against the IGSSA schools, and our Years 7-10 Touch representatives will look to defend their 2021 SSSSA Statewide Championships success as they compete in the 2022 Finals Day at Park 17.

Finally, our Open Touch girls will be looking to go one step further from their second-place finish in 2021 at the 2022 SSSSA Statewide Championships Touch finals.

We wish the best of luck to all our girls and we look forward to sharing their results with you in the next issue.
