yLead – Altitude Day Conference

"Members of the Middle School SRC were fortunate enough to attend a leadership conference called Altitude, where we had the chance to connect with leaders from other schools. Along with participating in many interactive activities, we also listened to many inspirational talks. The acronym LOUD was used to set the tone for the day and remind us to stay loud during all the activities.

'L’ stands for ‘lean in’, meaning to lean into the opportunities that approach us and really listen to what they have to say.
‘O’ stands for ‘open mind’, which means going into any situation with a positive and active mindset.
'U’ stands for ‘understanding’, meaning to give any problem a go and try to understand its outcomes.
Finally, ‘D’ stands for ‘dream’, and means to dream big about all the possibilities that could come out of this conference."

Year 9 Commedia dell'arte

Rebecca Williams’ Year 9 Drama class are to be congratulated on a wonderfully witty and foolish performance of student-devised scenarios this week. The performance took traditional characters from Commedia dell’arte, introduced modern themes of social media and mixed them with characters inspired by the Wilderness Staffroom, namely Il Capitano Hawkins Manifold Longobardi the Seventeenth, slayer of dragons and captivator of all women’s hearts and Il Capitano Trentin D’Aloisio Pyman Bruce the Eighteenth, lifter of weights and shredded for the gods. The audience enjoyed the physicality of the performance and their part in the jokes and performance.

da Vinci Decathlon

This week, Year 7 and Year 9 teams competed in the da Vinci Decathlon at St Peter’s Girls School. The ten disciplines involved in the competition included: Engineering, Mathematics and Chess, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Cartography and Legacy. Miss Alison Short and Mrs Bess Smith were very proud of the teams and how they represented the School.

The Year 7 team placed first in Creative Producers. The team members were Bella Pasin, Bella Nguyen, Saanvi Khanna, Seraphina Sun, Addison Raeside, Poppy Ritchie, Gabby Chisholm and India Goodall.

Musician in Residence

Following Jazz at The Gov, the Year 7s and Year 8s were lucky enough to join our Musician in Residence, Adam Page, for a Music lesson on Thursday afternoon. Following an engaging performance at the Music Assembly, the girls have continued to be active participants in all of the sessions Adam has held over the week. Thank you to the Music Department for organising sessions for the Middle School girls.

Unboxing Ancient Egypt

Students in Year 7 History were given the opportunity to unleash their inner Egyptian artist through the construction of dioramas. Their exploration of the Ancient Egypt unit challenged and activated their ability to be adventurous learners. Students replicated their own museum exhibition room by creating and curating a wide collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts. Popular artefacts included Tutankhamun's mask, Nefertiti's bust by Thutmose, the Rosetta Stone, canopic jars and William the Faience Hippopotamus. The girls have thoroughly enjoyed bringing their historical learning to life.
