IGSSA Swimming Carnival

Last week, our Wilderness swimmers had another outstanding meet at the IGSSA Swimming Carnival on Tuesday 31 May. Wilderness performed incredibly well, placing in 52 of the 57 events and finishing first in 29. These results secured the 13 Years, 16 Years and Open Age pennants, Intercol Swimming Trophy and the IGSSA Shield. Previously, Wilderness won the Shield in 1996 and 2010, and the School has taken out all three major swimming titles in 2022 for the first time ever!

Special mention must go to our amazing girls who set new IGSSA records:

  • Isabella Beaumont (Year 8): 13 Years 50m Freestyle and 13 Years 50m Backstroke
  • Isabella Beaumont, Asta Mickan, Charlise Green and Rose Franze (Year 8): 13 Years 4x50m Freestyle Relay.

Thank you to all our swimmers and their families for their support and involvement at the 2022 meets.

North Adelaide District SAPSASA Cross Country

On Thursday 2 June, 14 of our girls in Years 4-6 represented Wilderness at the North Adelaide District SAPSASA Cross Country at Park 9, against the top runners in our district. Our girls had a wonderful experience and enjoyed testing themselves in the slightly longer 3000m event.

Three girls were selected to represent the district at the State Cross Country Championships on Thursday 9 June, with Angelique Whittaker (Year 5) placing third in the 10 Years event, Tara Salerno (Year 6) placing first in the 11 Years event and Asha Dan (Year 6) placing second in the 12 Years event. This was particularly impressive for Asha, who improved from 13th position last year.

Thank you to Ms Rosie Smith and Mr Brad Waller for their work with our girls in Term 1.

Cross Country State Championships

Yesterday our selected Cross Country runners competed in the Cross Country State Championships at the Oakbank Racecourse. The weather was cold and wet, and the ground was muddy, but it wouldn’t be the Cross Country State Championships without it!

Wilderness were outstanding yet again, competing at the State Championship level amongst the top school runners in the state. Our team results were impressive with both our 14 and 15 Years teams placing fifth. Our Open team of Georgia Muir (Year 12), Sarah Muir (Year 12) and Mia Jersmann (Year 12) placed third. The 16 Years team of Sasha Hardin (Year 10), Matilda Ryan (Year 11) and Gracie Dowling (Year 10) placed a close second. Finally, our 13 Years team of Caitlin Hardin (Year 8), India Goodall (Year 7), Margot Tembel (Year 7), Madison Tait (Year 7) and Lola Stradwick (Year 7) took out first place by an impressive margin.

Angelique Whittaker (Year 5) was also part of the North Adelaide District, which placed first in the 10 Years SAPSASA Team event.

So many runners achieved outstanding individual bests and we would like to highlight and congratulate our top 10 finishers in their respective events:

  • Tara Salerno (Year 6) (North Adelaide District) – 8th place, 11 Years
  • Georgia Muir (Year 12) – 7th place, Open
  • India Goodall (Year 7) – 4th place, 13 Years
  • Caitlin Hardin (Year 8) – 3rd place, 13 Years
  • Sasha Hardin (Year 10) – 1st place, 16 Years

Well done girls on some outstanding efforts and results! Thank you to our staff and parents who braved the cold to support the girls.

SSSSA Statewide Year 11/12 Touch Football Competition

Thursday 2 June was a historic day for our Wilderness Touch Football players and program as our Senior team finally secured our first ever SSSSA Year 11/12 Touch Football State Championship. The girls moved through the minor matches undefeated and secured a 3-1 win against St Peter’s Girls in the semi-final. In the final, our girls faced Marryatville for a rematch of the 2021 final. The first half was tightly contested with the scores level at 1-1 going into half time. In the second half, our girls remained strong in their defensive line and scored two excellent team tries to take out first place 3-1.

Eliza Corbin (Year 12), Charlie Bower (Year 11) and Annabel Manifold (Year 12) were magnificent in their leadership roles and I offer a big congratulations to Mr Brad Snell and Ms Marnie Eddington for their outstanding work over many years with our touch program. This is a fantastic and deserving achievement for all involved!
