We are at an exciting time of year, where Middle School girls are finishing their Semester 1 subjects and looking ahead to new opportunities for learning in Semester 2.
Many of the subjects that we offer in the Middle School are semester-based so that our girls can have a broad range of experiences with specialist teachers, enabling them to discover personal skills and interests. Some of the courses include; Innovation and Enterprise, Multi Media, Geography, Philosophy, Cyber and AI, Robotics and Space, Drama, Music and many more.
Subs in Schools
One of our most exciting Year 9 semester courses is the Subs in Schools competition. As well as working with engineers to build a submarine, the girls will develop skills in financial literacy, seek sponsorship and budget for the materials needed for their submarine construction, team uniforms and trade displays. The Subs girls have been busy fundraising at school to finance their entry and will collaborate again for the competition in September.
On The Stage
To complete their semester course, Year 9 Drama students showcased their exceptional skills on the stage last Thursday in their production of ‘The Girl Who Cried Wolf’. The girls explored themes including truth telling and the impact of being dishonest. The production was energetic, thought provoking and confident and I congratulate the girls on their fine and courageous performances!
French Delicacies
The ultimate finish to the semester was planned for our French students last Thursday as they visited creperie, Paris Plage. I am sure that the girls were very focused on applying their language skills as they decided on delicious toppings.
Co-Education Activity
In preparation for Semester 2, our Year 9 SRC leaders met with student representatives from Prince Alfred College last Wednesday to plan a Year 9 co-educational activity. We look forward to collaborating with the boys and learning together in an exciting, off campus event.
Happy Holidays
I hope that you have a happy, well-deserved winter break with your family.
For the Middle School Boarding families, I hope that you have a wonderful time with your daughters these holidays. It was certainly lovely to celebrate the Term 2 Boarder’s birthdays on Tuesday night last week and I know that the girls are looking forward to a long break at home.
Thank you to those Middle School families who invited boarders to spend time with them during term or exeats and holidays if girls were unable to return to their own home due to distance and difficulty with travel restrictions.
Families can all look forward to hearing about their daughter’s Semester 1 learning when reports become available in SEQTA Engage early next week and we look forward to seeing the girls again on Wednesday 21 July.
