Just like that, we are halfway through the 2021 school year! There have been some tired bodies the past week with exams, assignment deadlines and a busy term of sport. It is important for all our girls (and parents) to have a few sleep-ins and recharge for the start of Term 3.
I would strongly encourage all our girls to find time during the break to keep active as we will jump right back into competition in the first week back. Three weeks of no activity and going straight back to matches is a recipe for injury. Stay connected with your team and friends during the break and we look forward to seeing you reenergised and determined in a few weeks.
Rising Footy Star
A big congratulations to our resident SANFL superstar, Sachi Syme. Last Friday, Sachi was invited to attend the Norwood Football Club’s Awards night to celebrate the achievements of the SANFLW season.
Sachi (Year 11) has played some outstanding footy this season and was awarded the 2021 Rising Star Award.
We are very proud of you Sachi and look forward to seeing you continue to flourish.
Statewide Knockout Netball
Last Thursday, our Year 10 Netball teams took part in the Statewide Knockout Netball competition against some strong opposition. These tournaments provide a valuable opportunity for our girls to play outside of their comfort zone against teams outside the regular IGSSA competition, challenging them to adapt and experiment with their game.
The first match against Cabra was a perfect example of this, with our girls playing against a far stronger team. After a challenging first quarter, we showed significant improvement and greatly reduced the score margin. In the third quarter, the girls were the only team to draw with Cabra for the day.
Our Year 10 Intermediate A Netball team is currently sitting in second place on the IGSSA premiership table. We look forward to seeing them learn from this experience as they head into some big matches next term, including the Intercol round in Week 4.
Parklands Parking and Traffic
The safety of our staff, students and parents is a priority for Wilderness School Sport. The Parklands hosts a significant number of trainings and matches for sport from Year 3 through to Year 12 each week, which can cause a safety risk at busy pick-up and drop-off times on Robe Terrace.
All parents, please be reminded that the bay closest to The Parklands building is a bus zone and you are not permitted to stop in this area. Stopping in this area creates traffic hazards as it prevents cars being able to perform a U-turn and blocks the Emergency Access gate for emergency services.
Please only use the bay areas designated for parking to ensure we can minimise potential hazards around busy sport times.
