As I sat in assembly on Monday morning and listened to our SRC President Ella Beinssen’s report reflecting on Term 2, I now know why the term has flown given the range of activities that have taken place.

A lot has been achieved and it has been great to have our annual events with live audiences. It does make such a difference for the girls and it has been wonderful to welcome parents and members of our community back on site.

Adventurous Journey

Last Saturday, eight Year 11 girls headed to Katherine in the Northern Territory as a part of their Adventurous Journey for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. The girls will trek the Jatbula Trail over eight days. This is a 62-kilometre one way walk, departing from Nitmiluk Gorge, traversing the western edge of the Arnhem Land escarpment and finishing at Leliyn (Edith Falls). This unique experience will be one the girls will never forget. Ms Lauren Walker is thanked for her coordination of this event.

Year 11 Mid-Year Examinations

Last week all Year 11s completed their Mid-Year examinations and the girls are congratulated on the way they approached the exam block. This is a fantastic learning experience which provides them with feedback about how they are traveling at this point of time in each examined subject.

At the end of this term, all parents will receive a comprehensive written report for each of the subjects your daughter has undertaken this semester. I encourage you to take the time to work through this report with your daughter and to seek feedback from her about areas of growth and improvement for Semester 2. If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the relevant teacher(s) at the start of Term 3.

Fun in the Wilderness

As mentioned in my last article, a number of these girls were involved in the ‘Fun in the Wilderness’ activities which have taken place this term with Foster Care Children from Anglicare. It has been an absolute joy to welcome the families to Wilderness every Tuesday with much excitement and laughter.

There were many mutual benefits of this experience, with foster children, their families, students and staff all developing new skills, making strong connections and many special lasting memories. Feedback from the girls highlights the importance of these activities.

“This has been an incredible experience to work with the group of children and see them develop in their confidence while having so much fun” Inika Weber

“My most rewarding part of these session is hearing from the parents that the children can’t wait to come back every week and tell all their friends at preschool about the program” Harriet Craig

Thank you to Mrs Bess Smith, Mrs Danielle Kemp and Ms Lauren Walker for their support of the girls throughout out the term. We look forward to this activity continuing next term.

Rising Star

Congratulations to Sachi Syme (Year 11), who was named the Norwood Football Club Rising Star for the Women’s League Team on the weekend. This is an exceptional effort and we look forward to following Sachi’s development in the years ahead.

Glee

As is tradition, Term 2 concludes with Glee. The creativity and enjoyment that the girls gain from creating their dance routines with their Houses is a joy to watch. Congratulations to all girls on their performances.

Finally, I hope you have a safe and happy mid-year break with your daughter(s) and I look forward to welcoming the girls back at the start of Term 3. A reminder that Year 12 girls will return early on Monday 19 July for exams as previously advised.
