Australian Defence Force Women in Leadership Seminar

During the Term 2 holidays, Emily Porter, Inika Weber and I, along with students from other schools attended a Women in Leadership Day at Defence Force Recruiting for future female leaders.

The day was run by the ‘Women in Defence Force’ team who introduced us to a range of women leaders in various jobs. We discovered our leadership and communication styles, strengths, values, and how to effectively lead different types of people. We did this through several hands-on activities including a communication and drawing task and a bridge-building game using only tape and magazines. We were provided several take-home sheets to help develop our leadership skills both at school and home.

Overall, the day was very exciting. We all learnt how we can become future leaders both in and outside of the Australian Defence Force.

I applied for an Officer position in the Australian Army earlier this year and after an intensive application process, I have just received a letter of offer to commence Officer training early in 2022.

I will be studying Mechanical Engineering at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) while simultaneously undergoing Military and Officer training in Canberra. I plan on making the most of the remainder of Year 12 at Wilderness and in Adelaide. I am very excited to take up this unique opportunity and look forward to sharing the experience with Wilderness students when I return to Adelaide and visit the School.
