There are several events on our music calendar in Term 3. Please check the schedule carefully and keep an eye out for email notifications with more details if your daughters are involved.
The first event is next Friday 12 August for our Rock Band, who will be performing at Norwood Hotel, along with Prince Alfred College, St Peter's College, Seymour College and Walford Anglican School for Girls. More details can be found here.
Our biggest music concert for the year will be held on Tuesday 6 September, and this year we invite you to join us for a wonderful and fun evening in cabaret style, celebrating ‘Pop Music Through The Ages’. Details regarding tickets and food/drinks will be available shortly. This year’s event will feature a range of our ensembles across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools and we are hoping to get a great crowd along to support music in our wonderful school.
AHOMINGS Music Tutor Awards 2022
Every year AHOMINGS (the Association of Heads of Music in Non-Government Schools) acknowledges the outstanding work, support and contribution of music instrumental and vocal tutors within our associations and schools.
As an organisation that facilitates professional engagement, support and networking, AHOMINGS are aware that music tutors’ contribution and long service is not necessarily recognised outside the music department that they work in, and felt it was important to highlight their significant contribution.
It is once again wonderful to announce that two Wilderness staff have been recognised this year:
- It is with great pleasure to announce Ms Mary Waterhouse has been awarded the AHOMINGS Bob Hower Award for 2022. Like Bob, Mary has been recognised for her consistent, passionate and far-reaching influence on generations of musicians in independent, non-government schools in South Australia.
- It is also my pleasure to inform you that Ms Katrina Reynolds has been formally recognised for her long service as a music tutor in Independent Schools in SA. The Don Burrows Award recognises the outstanding contribution, support and influence music tutors have had in their respective music departments and on the students in their care.
Mary and Katrina will receive their awards at the upcoming AHOMINGS Presentation a little later this term—congratulations!
I also would like to congratulate our trumpet tutor Mr Warren Heading for being inducted into Southern Jazz Club's 'Hall of Fame' for his service to Traditional Jazz in Australia. This award recognises Warren for his contribution to keeping Traditional Jazz alive in South Australia and the Southern Jazz Club. Well done Warren—this is very much deserved.
Generations in Jazz Studio Recordings
Last term our auditioned ensembles went to Wizardtone Studios in Hendon and recorded their live submissions for the Generations in Jazz festival. We also took the opportunity to do a professional recording of the groups with a studio technician who worked with us through the process and has captured the amazing music our girls created.
The links to the music can be found below, and I encourage everyone to take time out of their day to have a listen! I would like to thank James Brown at Wizardtone for his work with our girls, and to Miss Cassie Pope, Ms Jo Tropeano and Mr Damien Hurn for their hard work and support. Lastly, to the girls themselves: your dedication and commitment is admirable, and your passion and love for music obvious. I hope you keep a copy of this and one day look back and reflect on how incredible you all are!
