Princes Rock on Parade
On Friday 12 August, the Wildy Rock Band headed to Norwood Live to perform in the annual Princes Rock show hosted by Prince Alfred College (PAC). This informal concert showcased the talents of five rock bands from PAC, along with guest bands from Seymour, St Peter’s Girls and Wilderness.
Songs throughout the night included everything from The Who to Ed Sheeran, and the Wildy Rock Band delivered a polished set of three well-known songs: ‘Mr Brightside’ (The Killers), ‘Rolling in the Deep’ (Adele) and ‘Crazy in Love’ (Beyoncé). Congratulations to Rock Band members Olivia Kyriacou (Year 12), Esen Cinar (Year 12), Grace Kong (Year 9), Lizzie Parkinson (Year 11), Victoria Phan (Year 10) and Olivia Tallent (Year 12) for their energetic performance and thank you to Prince Alfred College for hosting the event.
String Workshop
On Sunday 14 August, the Senior String Orchestra attended a workshop at Prince Alfred College to work on all things strings, led by Ms Jade Blanchard-Patterson from PAC and Ms Cassie Pope from Wilderness.
This jam-packed afternoon offered the students from Wildy and PAC an opportunity to work on their repertoire for the upcoming South Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival, where both orchestras will be performing as part of the Advanced String Ensemble section. After some tutor-led sectionals, the students combined for a joint rehearsal to form a super-orchestra, before concluding the evening with an informal performance for parents, where the orchestras were able to showcase the afternoon’s work.
Thank you to Prince Alfred College for hosting the workshop, and we wish the orchestras all the best for their upcoming performances.
