If Term 4 were a horse race, the commentary might go something like this.
We're all set to go. We have a great field of contenders and the conditions are excellent, so the track will be fast-paced. They are all in the barriers and the Year 12s are bracing at the bit. Knowing this is the finale in their Senior School race, some are looking a bit jittery in the barrier, while others are keen to cross the finish line.
They are off, and the Year 12s are out in front, putting a considerable amount of turf between them and the rest of the field. The field has already seen a split away with a group of Year 10s diverting to the Duke of Edinburgh track.
There will be a number of obstacles before the finish line. The Year 12s have a series of hurdles to negotiate early in the race. The first is coming up, with two jumps in quick succession; Leavers' Day and Valedictory Dinner. The fashions on the field will steal the show, with restyled school uniforms and cocktail party dresses on-trend.
They are racing well and we anticipate a strong and clear finish as the odds are in their favour.
Yorke Peninsula Dinner and Field Days
After the cancellation of all Field Days over the past year and a half, the opportunity to attend the Paskeville event in the first week of the holidays provided a wonderful opportunity to engage with past and present families. Mrs April Ridgway and I took this opportunity to host a Yorke Peninsula Community Dinner, which was a fun evening and well attended.
Having grown up in the mid-north, returning to this region is always a nostalgic visit for me, with fond memories of long summer days spent on North Beach and Black Point.
Holiday Activities
I would like to thank our International Co-ordinator, Ms Vivian Han, for organising a special holiday event for our international girls while they stayed with a local family. Without the capacity to return home to their parents, these special highlights are an important opportunity for the girls to connect with staff and each other in a different context. Ms Han accompanied the girls on a trip to Monarto Zoo in the second week of the break. The group enjoyed the interactions with the various species living at Monarto and a country-style picnic lunch.
Leadership Handover Assembly
The official handover of the student leadership group was formalised at the SRC Handover Assembly on Tuesday morning. The boarders are well represented in the student leadership team, and I believe they will make a valued contribution to the success of the 2022 SRC Committee.
