    Year 3 Teacups

In the final week of Term 3, the Year 3 students in Miss Brittany Neeb’s class celebrated their achievements with a small Tea Party.

Over the course of Term 3, the girls learnt how to hand build teacups, plates and spoons using earthenware clay. They sculpted, painted, and glazed their work focusing on the form and shape of something we use almost every day.

They had smiles from ear to ear, they were utterly delighted with the work they created.

Year 11 Drama Students Present 'Little Fish'

In a time not too distant from our own, a new synthetic chemical is discovered in the waters of the Port River Estuary, increasing threat to the residents of the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary.

Meanwhile, Adelaide residents become restless at the sightings of a half-man, half-dolphin creature labelled the 'Port River Monster'. While environmentalists apply pressure on the government to respond urgently to the pollution of the river believing that the toxicity of the water may be responsible for human mutation, sceptics claim it to be a hoax by 'deluded greenies with a hero complex' aimed at bringing down the government and big industry.

What happens when one girl comes face to face with the Port River Monster? If we are all just little fish swimming around in a big pond, what possible different can any of us make on our own? Can one little fish really take on a big shark?

I wrote this play based on some initial ideas the girls had for a performance with a social and environmental message that incorporated a supernatural, sci-fi hero origin story. We have worked with Mrs Simone Burzacott-Gorman and workshopped the piece with volunteers from the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary to ensure that we convey a story which has Adelaide’s own dolphin community at its heart.

This is a special story about the complexities of belief, faith, science, industry and the human impact on the environment – and on each other. The show runs for approximately 70 minutes and features a surprise cameo appearance from one of our very own scientists!

Please join us for the Year 11 Drama Production, 'Little Fish', playing in the Newman Theatre on Wednesday 27 October and Thursday 28 October at 6:00pm.
