It has been a positive return to Term 4, the beginning of what will be a very busy eight weeks in the Junior School.
We are looking forward to a range of significant curriculum and co-curricular events in the coming weeks. Our Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 girls will venture off on camp, our Year 6 Debating Team will compete in the IPSHA Debating Semi-Finals at Walford Anglican School For Girls on Wednesday 27 October, girls will compete in track and field events at our upcoming Sports Day next Friday 28 October, and they will conclude the year with our much-loved Christmas Concert.
New Girls' Day
Another time-honored event in the Junior School is our annual New Girls' Day. Held this year on Thursday 18 November, it is a day when our current girls meet and welcome the new girls that will be joining their cohorts in 2022.
The day begins with a Junior School Assembly before the girls move off to spend time with the teachers who will be teaching in their 2022 year level. The teachers will have a range of engaging, ‘getting to know you’ activities, designed to build a connection with all of the girls they will work with the following year.
A letter will go home to families the day before New Girls Day informing the community of who the year-level teachers for 2022 will be. The girls will then find out who their class teacher is, as well as the other girls in their class when they attend the final transition on Friday 3 December, the last day of school.
Sports Day
Our House Captains have been busily preparing for our Junior School Sports Day, to be held next Friday 28 October. A reminder that, as usual, dismissal on this day is at the conclusion of the Sports Day presentations at approximately 1:30pm for Reception to Year 6. Camp Australia will be commencing OHSC early on this day to accommodate girls who are unable to be collected at this time. Should you require OHSC on this day, please book your daughter in here.
Art in the Junior School
You may have noticed the beautiful new piece of art on display on the external wall of the Junior School Front Office this term. Created as a joint project between our Junior School girls and our 2021 Artist in Residence, Rosina Possingham, the piece grew from a mapping project that was undertaken during Rosina’s time with us. The piece has since been mounted and sealed so that it can be enjoyed by many in the Junior School. It certainly brightens up our space in the most beautiful of ways and we are grateful to the Art Department for organising its display.
Our Year 6 classes have also worked hard on creating artwork on the staircase leading up to their classrooms. Focusing on showcasing literature that the girls have loved, the girls created a representation of these books on each step. It has made such a difference to the staircase area, creating interest, promoting discussion and adding colour.
