HerTechPath
Students in Years 7–10 were involved in an amazing STEM day at Wilderness School on Monday 7 August, involving interactive workshops to inspire students to consider careers in technology, cyber and STEM.
The day started with a keynote presentation by HerTechPath Founder Dr Eva Balan-Vnuk at an assembly for students in Years 7–12 about the prevalence of technology in all aspects of our lives, and how important it is to understand it and not be afraid of it, as every job in every industry will require confidence and competency in using new technologies.
Eva and her team of volunteers – Sukhmani Arora, Sasha Lapcevic, Adebimpe Anita MacGregor, Sonia Rani, Katherine Enderling and Vandana Kansal – worked with the students during an Ikigai canvas exercise, and answered many questions including:
- When did you know that you wanted to have a career in tech?
- What did you study?
- Is there tech in sports and medicine?
- What degree should I study to be in tech?
- Did anyone inspire you to have a career in STEM?
- What has surprised you about a career in STEM?
We are extremely grateful to Eva and her team for their support of this day at Wilderness.
Gap Year – Camp Counsellors USA and Canada (CCUSA) Programs
Open to students 18 years and over by 1 June of each year. The program runs from June to September (Northern Hemisphere summer). Aussies are always high in demand to work as camp counsellors/leaders at the 1000+ camps that CCUSA work with across the USA and Canada. Applications are now open for Camp 2024 and interested students can start their application now.
Work Experience USA Program
For those seniors heading straight into university, college or TAFE in 2024, Work Experience USA allows students to work in the USA at ski resorts such as Aspen or the many Vail resorts. The jobs are in hospitality and retail as well as on mountain for those who are good skiers/snowboarders.

- three programs as well as the other CCUSA programs.
To assist students to learn more about the opportunities available to them, CCUSA can set up several presentation options for students:
- live virtual information sessions via Zoom with a dedicated CCUSA staff member
- pre-recorded videos specific to our programs
- digital brochures and information sent via email.
CCUSA‘s unique programs are designed to teach leadership, professional development and work-related skills. Today, communication, collaboration and creativity are critical for success in the work force. Working or volunteering overseas is also useful in guiding students in personal growth and deciding on a study or career path. Due to the restrictions of the past three years due to COVID-19, many young Australians are wanting to explore the world and reach outside of their comfort zone. Their programs are a great way to do this, while still being supported.

Year 10 Work Experience
In Week 8 of Term 2, Year 10 students participated in career exploration by undertaking university visits and industry placements, to support students to make informed decisions about future careers. They connected with professional mentors, developed valuable soft skills and gained practical experience in a range of fields including Engineering, Aerospace, Architecture, Law, Medicine, Occupational Therapy and AgriBusiness.
Please enjoy this reflection from Niya Singhal (Year 10) about her work experience at Government House.
I had the privilege of undertaking my work experience at the office of the Governor of South Australia, a remarkable experience, and the highlight of my year. This opportunity provided me with valuable insights into the Governor's role and the workings of her office. My time there involved assisting with administrative tasks and experiencing work tasks in various departments, including marketing, protocol and finance.
Government House works as a ‘functioning household’ and I was given the opportunity to interact with housekeeping staff and footmen, allowing me to experience the behind-the-scenes operations of the residence. Additionally, I had the honour of participating in preparations for a reception, which was both enlightening and fulfilling.
The diverse range of people I met during this experience was truly fascinating, including some ambassadors whose roles and experiences provided me with valuable perspectives for my own career aspirations. Among the highlights of this entire experience was the incredible opportunity to engage in conversation with Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC. Her impressive background as the former Head of DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) and wise advice left a lasting impact on me, offering valuable insights on how to navigate my own path.
Overall, this work experience has been an incredible opportunity, not only granting me valuable insights into my desired career path, but also providing me with a taste of what it is like to be a part of the workforce.
