HerTechPath

On Monday, girls in the Middle School were lucky to share sessions with the team from HerTechPath. Their mission is to enable girls to see what they can be and for women to be all that they can be with careers in technology, cyber and STEM. HerTechPath programs support awareness and understanding of the diversity of incredible career opportunities available in technology.

The following reflection was written by Emmy Denys (Year 9):

On Monday afternoon, Year 9 students were given the incredible opportunity to be a part of an enriching seminar organised by HerTechPath, a leading platform dedicated to empowering women in the field of technology. The event was hosted by Eva, whose passion for fostering diversity and inclusivity in the technology industry was evident from the moment her career began. Eva opened the seminar with a warm welcome, setting the tone for an engaging and collaborative discussion. Her introductory remarks highlighted the pressing need for more women to pursue careers in technology and the positive impact their contributions can have on the industry as a whole. Throughout the event, the discussions were both informative and inspiring. We delved into a wide range of topics, from personal career journeys of successful women in tech to strategies for overcoming challenges that women often face in male-dominated workplaces. The seminar was a true celebration of the potential of women in tech, and I left with a renewed commitment to drive change and pave the way for a more diverse and inclusive tech industry.

Encounter Youth

Middle School students and their parents have all had the opportunity to listen to presentations from Encounter Youth this week. Encounter Youth are the largest provider of Alcohol and Other Drug education to South Australian secondary school students. Their program is research-based, incorporates up-to-date trends in young people and is aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

We hope that this will encourage open conversations within families.

Subject Selection

Current Year 8 Students and their families will receive further information today regarding subject selection for next year, following sessions with girls and parents this week. Please be in contact with the Middle School Office if you have any questions about subject selection.

Current Year 7 Students have received instructions about choosing a language to study in Year 8 today.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Graziella DeMaria (Year 9), who represented Wilderness at the Interschool Skiing Competition in Falls Creek during the school holidays. In very icy conditions, she placed fourth for South Australia.

International Lunch

The International Committee hosted their annual International Lunch in Week 2. Students were able to order pork and cabbage dumplings, Takoyaki, tofu cold rolls, falafels and Portugese tarts.

Quiz Night Casual Day

On Tuesday 29 August, there will be a casual day to support the 2023 Community Quiz Night, brought to you by the Wilderness Old Scholars’ Association and Wilderness Parents and Friends Association.

In lieu of a gold coin donation, girls should bring an item to contribute to raffle prizes for the Quiz Night.
