Show Day
Term 3 is off and racing and we have already had several additional rehearsals, as well as a few events that took place yesterday. We took all Year 7 students to see Yuldea—a fantastic production by the Bangarra Dance Theatre.
At almost the same time across town, our combined Senior and Intermediate String Quartets took part in the Year 12 and Under Senior String Ensemble section of the Adelaide Strings Eisteddfod. The girls played wonderfully under the direction of our Strings Coordinator Mr Joseph Freer and placed first! Congratulations to the girls involved and to Mr Freer.
And finally, last night our Rock Band joined students from several schools as they came together for the annual ‘Princes Rock’ event at Norwood Hotel.
To keep on top of the Music events this term, please find our calendar of events/rehearsals here.
Annual Showcase of Music – ‘Stage and Screen’
Annual Showcase of Music
Thursday 31 August
6.00pm
Adelaide Town Hall
Our Annual Showcase of Music is fast approaching and we are thrilled to once again be taking this event offsite—this time, to the beautiful Adelaide Town Hall. Please see details here. We would love to see as many people as possible at this year’s event, which will feature music from a range of our Junior and Senior ensembles. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Stage and Screen’ and you will hear some very well-known pieces from film and Broadway.
Wilderness Students Shining at Adelaide Eisteddfod
Over the past weeks, there have been several students at Wilderness who have shined at the annual Adelaide Eisteddfods. I would like to particularly highlight the efforts of Sarah Mah (Year 8), who was awarded two gold medals in separate categories:
- The Certificate of Performance
- 13 Years Category
Sarah received high praise from the adjudicators in both sections and we congratulate her for her success.
Combined Choirs with Prince Alfred College
On Sunday, we combined with Prince Alfred College for our first ever co-ed choir. This small vocal ensemble is learning repertoire that they will showcase later in Term 3 at both the Wilderness Annual Showcase of Music, and the Prince Alfred Music Concert. It was a fun experience and the group sounded great right from the start. If you would like to hear this group perform, make sure you get your tickets for the ‘Stage and Screen’ Annual Showcase of Music (details above).
ABODA Bands and Orchestra Festival
Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 August (Week 4) is the three-day Bands and Orchestra Festival at Westminster School. Information has been sent to parents via Consent2Go. Please check this carefully so you know when your daughters are involved. Some events are during the school day and others are after school. We wish our string ensembles and bands all the best!
