Wednesday 16 August in Week 4 was the inaugural Round Square Day, which saw us raise approximately $1000 for the Round Square Discovery Fund. Students wore their ugg boots for a gold coin donation, were able to buy a range of cakes and biscuits in the bake sale and enjoyed a kebab lunch. During lunch, a range of activities were set up for students to participate in, including ‘Guess the Country’ and ‘Guess the Flag’ quizzes.

As a member of the Round Square community, we are asked to contribute to the Discovery Fund, which is used to finance a range of student-focused activities for Round Square International Projects. This may include materials and tools for these projects, as well as bursaries for students who would not otherwise be able to participate in Round Square International Service activities. This year’s International Service project is in Thailand, where students will work to construct a community research centre, park ranger huts and beehive fences, as well as helping to plant lemongrass, citrus plants and other crops disliked by elephants. These activities support the ongoing Tom Yum Project, which is dedicated to providing sustainable food security for rural communities in Thailand. Students will also learn about the Thai culture and develop communication and leadership skills.

Thank you to the Round Square SRC Representative Claudia John (Year 12) and her team of ambassadors and committee members, who all helped to make this day a success.
