Last Day of Term 3

The Annual Showcase of Music was held on Wednesday 1 September in Elder Hall. On the first day of Spring, we were treated to some delightful weather and music from our students.

While the start of Term 3 didn’t go to plan, our girls displayed resilience and were committed to working together to ensure they reached their full potential.

Being able to step onstage in the beautiful Elder Hall and perform to a live audience is something the girls had been striving to do for over a year and their energy and joy was infectious. Our theme for the evening was all about bringing back the love of live music and there were some outstanding performances.

The first half saw all of our choral ensembles shine with the Year 7/8 Choir taking the spotlight with a fabulous rendition of Toto’s ‘Africa’ beginning with a rainstorm created by the girls. It was also the perfect venue to showcase the outstanding talents of our Piano Quartet, who played Mozart’s ‘Piano Quartet in G Minor’ and wowed the audience with this advanced and challenging repertoire.

After a short interval, the stage was reset for our bands and Big Band 1 kicked off the second half of the evening with an up-beat version of ‘The Chicken’ – a huge hit with the girls themselves! The Rock Band finally played their inaugural concert channelling ABBA vibes with ‘Dancing Queen’. They were inspired to keep this theme going with the timely release of new ABBA material! The Senior Clarinet Ensemble played an endearing version of ‘Misty’ which highlighted Stage 2 Solo and Ensemble Performance student Jacinta Chronowski-Wong.

Following this, we said goodbye to our Year 12 musicians, which is always hard to do. The 2021 cohort is definitely one that I will always remember. A large group of dedicated music students, these girls have always displayed our school values at the highest level during my time here at Wilderness. Coming together with students that haven’t studied Music in several years, they formed a Year 12 Band and performed the Elton John classic ‘I’m Still Standing’, encouraging the audience and all students to join in - a fitting and fun way to finish our Showcase for 2021.

To all the girls involved in this year’s event, congratulations and thank you.

Vocal Eisteddfods

On Monday 6 September, Georgina Gross (Year 10) took part in the Vocal Eisteddfods.

Georgina entered two categories for Classical Voice. The first was 12-15 Years English Language Repertoire where she performed ‘When Moonbeams Softly Fall’ by Ernest Sietz and the second was 12-15 Years Australian Female Composer where she performed ‘The Thush’ by Edith Harryh.

Georgina was awarded first place in both categories – an amazing achievement and honour. Well done, Georgina!

Art

Year 5 Flower Garden

The Year 5W class have been busy bees creating a diverse variety of three-dimensional clay flowers, which have been installed in the Junior School gardens.

Students studied their chosen flower by analysing their form, colour and texture. They have learnt various skills including painting, ceramic sculpture and the collaborative nature of public artworks. The girls are so excited to see their work on display for our community to enjoy.

Media

Winter Intercol Film

We are pleased to share another film that celebrates the success of our Wilderness girls – this time it is Winter Intercol.

The video was filmed and pieced together by the girls in the Media Team led by Chelsea Kennedy the Year 12 SRC Media Representative. Thank you girls.
