Last Day of Term 3
The past few weeks in the Middle School have been a clear indication of the value of girls engaging in a broad range of learning experiences, which are authentic and ‘hands on’.
SAPSASA
Our Year 7 athletes and hockey players were able apply their skills in a competitive setting and participate in the recent SAPSASA events. Details and results can be found in the Sport section of this edition.
Creative Product Design
This year has been the first time we have offered Year 9 students a subject called Creative Product Design. Written and taught by our wonderful Art teachers, this subject also includes design elements that are complemented by some of our Design, Technology and Engineering classes.
This subject focuses on creating and marketing beautiful and useful objects, particularly ceramics. Recently each of the classes have visited the Jam Factory, working with artists to develop specialised skills to support the design and creation of their own ceramic consumer products.
Year 8 and 9 Camps
This week in particular has seen girls learning away from school. Our third Year 9 group departed for their REALISE program at our Crawford campus and our entire Year 8 cohort left for their own camp.
This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Year 8 girls were unable to cross the Victorian border to rock climb in the Grampians. Instead, the girls travelled down to the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula for a week of bushwalking, high ropes, kayaking and team building. Blessed with lovely weather and spectacular views, the Year 8s have embraced the opportunity to take on challenges and develop new and lasting relationships with their peers and teachers.
Sparaxis Day
Finally, much fun was to be had last week on Sparaxis Day, with girls and staff dressing up in their best ‘space’ themed costume and raising money for the Bhadure School in Nepal. Despite limited food sharing, it was a fabulous and bright way to also see off the last day of winter.
