Last Day of Term 3
With the missed rounds of Middle and Senior School Sport fixtures earlier this term, IGSSA has decided that the 2021 Winter Premierships are to be decided on the table positions based on points from the regular season rounds.
We are excited to announce out of the 14 Winter Premierships up for contention, Wilderness have successfully won 3.
Congratulations to the following teams and their coaching staff on their outstanding results this season.
Senior B Badminton
Our Senior B1 Badminton team enjoyed an undefeated season winning a perfect 6 from 6 matches. Congratulations to Diya Gowda (Year 10), Lucy Gu (Year 8), Mikaila Thomson (Year 12), Gauri Wechalekar (Year 12) and their coaches Ms Michele Ostermann and Mr Chris Thirlwell.
Senior B Hockey
Our Senior B Hockey girls managed to only drop one shield match during the season and finished joint Premiers with Pembroke School. Congratulations to Isabella Abbot (Year 9), Imogen Beadman (Year 10), Grace Dixon (Year 9), Isla Goodson (Year 8), Sharday Gue (Year 10), Indie Heywood-Smith (Year 8), Natasha Lippett (Year 9), Meg McGrath (Year 11), Ella Meyer (Year 7), Rozza Page (Year 9), Fem Snel (Year 12), Olivia Tallent (Year 11), Briege Williams (Year 7) and their coaches Ms. Stephanie Fisher and Mr Travis Henderson.
Division 1 Soccer
As mentioned in our last issue, our Division 1B Soccer Team enjoyed a successful season and more importantly a close fought final win to decide their season premiership against our Intercol rivals, Seymour College, on their home ground. A big congratulations again to our girls and their coach Mr Tobia Trentin and to Mr Shane Hill for his leadership of the Soccer program.
Several of our sporting teams just missed out on being named premiers finishing in the top three in their respective tables including our Senior A Football, Senior A Badminton, Senior B2 Badminton, Intermediate (10A) Netball, 7A Netball and Division 1A Soccer.
New Competition Sport Uniform
All Wilderness sport teams will be wearing a new sport uniform from Term 1, 2022. New singlets and short-sleeved tops worn with grey PE shorts, will be interchangeable between several sports whilst sports with specific requirements will have their own uniforms. I encourage you to read more information about its launch in the Uniform Shop article in this edition.
Interhouse Athletics Carnival Records
Following the Carnival, we have identified three girls who have been successful in either breaking or equalling Wilderness records.
- Caitlin Hardin set a new record in the Year 7 800m with a time of 2:44:50. The previous record was 2:47:18 set in 2020.
- Isabella Browning set a new record in the Year 8 200m with a time of 27.94 seconds. The previous record was 28.54 seconds set in 2012.
- Sienna Brown has equalled the record for Year 9 High Jump at 1.60m. The previous record was set in 2003.
Congratulations to our three new or equal record holders, we look forward to seeing you continue to chase the records over the next few years.
Outstanding SAPSASA Achievements
We are proud to announce the exceptional results of Wilderness girls in several SAPSASA teams this past fortnight.
Year 6/7 SAPSASA Hockey
Last week Wilderness was represented by Ella Meyer (Year 7), Briege Williams (Year 7), Evie Abbot (Year 6), Francesca Day (Year 6), Florence Maidment (Year 6) and Lucia Rayner (Year 6) with our six girls making up half of the District Team. The team was coached by one of our Wilderness coaches, Ms Georgia Kelly and our Senior A Hockey player, Molly Dwyer (Year 9).
The North Adelaide District Team performed exceptionally well across the three-day tournament winning all matches and one draw to be named winners of the Division 1 State Carnival.
Year 6 SAPSASA Soccer
Over the same three days, Wilderness boasted four players in the SAPSASA North Adelaide District Year 6 Soccer Team including Madison Tait, Margot Tembel, Mila Rinaldi and Zara Rocca.
The girls were outstanding and finished the tournament undefeated to take out the Division 2 State Carnival.
Year 7 SAPSASA Soccer
During Week 6, two of our Year 7 girls, Isabella Beaumont and Isabella Phan, were selected in the North Adelaide District Soccer Team and played in Division 1 of the State Carnival. The team performed well over the tournament but were unable to hold their top position narrowly missing out on being named State Champions.
SAPSASA North Adelaide District Athletics Carnival
Last Tuesday, Wilderness was represented by 25 of our top performing athletics girls from Years 4 to 7 at the North Adelaide District Athletics Carnival. The girls compete in their age categories against the top performers from North Adelaide District schools across various Track and Field events including 100m, 200m, 800m, shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and the 4x100m relay.
Our girls represented Wilderness proudly with many of our girls achieving a top three placing.
A special congratulations to our girls who placed 1st and have been selected to represent the North Adelaide District at the State Championships on Tuesday 21 September. Congratulations to Eloise Callus (Year 4), India Goodall (Year 6), Zali Detmold Cox (Year 7), Caitlin Hardin (Year 7), Ella Meyer (Year 7) and Millie Wilson (Year 7). Linah Kafagy (Year 5) has successfully qualified as part of the relay team.
Best of luck to the girls for the upcoming carnival and good luck to our girls trialling for the SAPSASA Tennis and AFL.
