This week we have been focused on Harmony Week, and the key message underpinning this week of learning is that ‘everyone belongs’.
This concept and celebration of diversity has taken us down many different paths and has included reading books, singing songs, creating works of art based on inclusivity, discussing friendship and belonging, and working with our older buddies to unpack this message. Respectful Relationships as a Wilderness School value is always at the heart of what we do, and this learning strongly connects to this value.
As part of this special week, on Tuesday 23 March, the girls were invited to dress in traditional costume or orange. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week as it traditionally signifies social communication and meaningful conversation. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and the encouragement of mutual respect.
Learning in the ELC is never in isolation, and this learning is no different. Everyone belongs in our ELC, and this is a concept that will be reinforced at every opportunity throughout the year.
What does kindness look like in our classroom?
"Even if you really like experiments doesn’t mean you can take it all because that wouldn’t be kind for everyone. You need to be kind and sharing to let everyone have a turn." Lily F
