The Middle School SRC attended the Halogen Leadership Conference last week at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Reflecting on the experience, the girls particularly valued hearing from Lachie Smart. In 2016, Lachie became the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world at just 18 years of age. The girls were inspired by Lachie’s message, challenging them to dream bigger and realise their capabilities.
Head of the River
Last Saturday, our Middle School rowers finished their season with Head of the River at West Lakes. Despite student spectators being restricted, spirits were high, and it was lovely to have parents attend and cheer their daughters on after a much quieter event in 2020. We were so proud of all of the girls, particularly the large number of Learn to Row girls in Years 8 who finished the day at West Lakes with four first places.
Grooves on the Green
We are all looking forward to the first Music event of the year and hope to see you on Memorial Lawn on Wednesday 31 March for Grooves on the Green. Girls have been busy rehearsing and are excited for their first 2021 performance!
NAPLAN National Online Trial
Along with all Year 3, 5, 7, and 9 students across the country, our Year 7 and 9 girls successfully participated in the NAPLAN National Online Trial yesterday at 11.00am. We are well placed to complete the NAPLAN online tests next term in May. Details about specific times for the NAPLAN tests will be sent to the appropriate year levels next term.
The End of Term 1
A reminder that Term 1 will end at 1.05pm on Thursday 1 April after the Easter Service. Girls will be free to leave school at this time for the Term 1 Holidays. Please note that the Library will not be open in the afternoon.
REALISE
This week, the Year 9 girls on REALISE have had a fantastic time, in the best conditions, kayaking across the Coorong on a three-day expedition. Preparing their own meals and packing all that they needed in their kayak, girls cruised across the water, cooked on their Trangia’s under the stars and reflected on the area’s history.
Middle and Senior School Cross Country Carnival
We are looking forward to next term’s Middle and Senior School Cross Country Carnival. This event will be held on Thursday 22 April at the Parklands. Please save the date in your diary as we welcome parents to attend. Details about the event can be found in the Sport section of this newsletter.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interviews for the Middle and Senior School will take place at the beginning of Term 2. Parents will have the opportunity to book interviews for Monday 19 April from 2.00pm to 7.00pm and Tuesday 27 April from 3.45pm – 9.00pm. An email with information about how to log in and book will be sent next week.
Working With Children Check
Our Middle School girls are keen responsible citizens and often volunteer both within and outside of school. Girls who are 14 years of age who regularly volunteer with children are required to have a Working with Children Check. Our Year 9s, as part of their Bronze Duke of Ed Award may require this check.
The WWCC lasts for five years, so it will be able to be used by girls in the Senior School for their volunteering as well. We encourage all girls to apply for a WWCC once they turn 14. Application details can be found on the Parent Portal.
