As Year 6 students, leadership is a particularly important part of our school lives. In keeping with our focus on being school leaders, our whole cohort went to the ‘GRIP Student Leadership Conference’. It has helped us grow as people and leaders. It also helped us to further consider ways we could be more generous, responsible, act with more integrity and bond better with other people and our peers – which, as the acronym name of the conference, perfectly summarises what we learned there.
Our topic for the first session was ‘It’s my TIME’ (an acronym for Talents, Interests, Make a difference and Experience) which focussed on the assets of a proficient leader. We deeply explored the meaning of this acronym by watching and identifying the TIME qualities of the main characters in some film clips. Schools from both metropolitan and regional South Australia collaborated through brainstorming ideas and plans to achieve their dreams and passions for their schools.
This was followed by ‘Time to Take Responsibility’. Here we explored and discussed the specific responsibilities of a leader, including following through on promises, doing what is right and putting others first. We were challenged to remember and carry out the responsibilities of a leader when faced with real-life scenarios.
Overall, this conference has helped us with our leadership roles and made us more aware of how to contribute to our school community. GRIP has given us a helping hand and many inspiring ideas on our journey to have more Generosity, accept Responsibility, develop Integrity, and bond with other People in both leadership and our lives.

Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students had a wonderful time on school camp from Tuesday 9 to Friday12 March at Crawford. Upon their return, our girls had many messages of thanks for their camp leaders who had made the experience so special...
Thank you, Kate
“I loved all the walks we did around the Coorong and learning the facts about the endangered, fenced off plants at Crawford. I also loved cooking the Coorong mullet and damper on the campfire and looking at the beautiful mosaic up the hill.” Sirui
“I noticed that you believed in us, and you knew that we could all do our best. You also never gave up when things were challenging, and you found a positive solution for every little problem we encountered.” Charlotte
“In the future, I will know how to cook damper and other food on a fire, and I understand that it’s possible to cook anywhere.” Nidhi
“You have inspired me to try at cooking, despite my many failures.” Meng-meng
Thank you, Charley
“I appreciated how you extended my love of nature and noticed how you changed my view of camping.” Lucy
“I noticed that you were very patient when others had questions. What you taught me was significant because I did not know how to put down a tent before you carefully explained how to do it.” Asha
“Thank you for teaching us how leaving no trace is good for the environment and leaving a single piece of fruit could kill an animal because they’re not used to it.” Sacha
Thank you, David
“What you taught me is significant because I see birds differently from before, and it helps me understand how much we need birds for other plants to survive in the ecosystem. My next step is to study more Australian birds so I can have more knowledge of them.” Clem
“It was amazing to learn how to bird band. I appreciated that you showed us all the steps, and you stayed up late to put up the nets. As I get older, it will be very handy because we may do bird banding on our Year 9 camp. I want to learn all the different bird types that are at the Coorong.” Rachel
“I now might be able to recognise some species of birds when I walk around the Coorong.” Reese
Thank you, Rita
“It was amazing to learn about the Ngarrindjeri culture, stories and everyday life. I find it special how you have such a great connection to your land and wildlife. I appreciated that you shared lots about your family through the story you told us that your uncle wrote. I love how you don’t lose sight of what is important in life.” Dot
“In the future, I’ll be able to show my family and friends the Ngori (pelican) dances you taught us, and that will encourage them to learn more about Ngarrindjeri culture.” Emilia
“It was amazing to learn about the Ngarrindjeri culture and the dances – the stories have very important morals.” Evangeline
“Thank you for spending time with us and bringing joy to our faces when we danced and listened to the singing.” Isla
Thank You
Thank you to the Year 4 Class who helped with the School Marketing and Communications Photoshoot last Wednesday. You all looked beautiful, dressed your best, and working away in class for our photographer. We look forward to seeing the photos in the coming weeks.
