Event: Medicine Pathways Presentation

Presenter: Akanksha Mahajan, 2019 Wilderness School Old Scholar and Final Year Medical Student

Akanksha Mahajan, a final year medical student at Monash University and former Dux of Wilderness School (2019), will discuss pathways to medicine, study strategies for years 11 and 12, and support options available through MedView. Topics include tutoring, application support, academic tutoring for SACE, and medical interview preparation. Q&A session included.

Elevate: Boosting women in STEM

The Elevate program provides:

  • A scholarship
  • Access to events and networking – mentoring
  • Wellbeing support during scholar’s university studies

Undergraduate category:

To receive an Undergraduate Scholarship, you must have an intention to study a degree focusing on science, technology, engineering or mathematics, administered by a STEM School or Faculty, e.g. Faculty of Engineering. Degrees administered by non-STEM faculties or that quality an individual for a specific occupation, e.g. medicine, speech pathology, etc. are ineligible.

Eligibility:

To be considered, applicants need to:

  • Identify as a women or non-binary person
  • Be enrolling as a domestic student at an Australian university
  • Be planning to undertake a STEM undergraduate degree, commencing in 2025

ATSE particularly encourages applications from individuals who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; individuals from regional, rural or remote areas; LGBTQA+; individuals from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds; low-socioeconomic backgrounds; or those living with a disability.

Australian Federal Police Directions Program
Directions is a structured 12-month program where First Nations people can experience the range of support and specialist roles available at the AFP.

Who should apply:
The Directions Program seeks out First Nations candidates who are:

  • Great at communication, good problem-solvers
  • Out of the box thinkers
  • Able to work well in a team, ready to learn new skills

No formal qualifications are required.

Timing and location:
The Directions Program runs from February to February each year with the selection process starting several months prior.

Positions are primarily based in Canberra. Some state-based positions exist, but these depend on organisational requirements.

When you apply, consider that you may have to move to Canberra – you will receive financial help for relocation (if required)

About the Directions Program: As a participant you will:

  • Have full-time employment
  • Complete induction activities and network with other Direction Program participants
  • Work in several roles across different teams
  • Complete a Certificate IV qualification
  • Be supported by buddies, mentors and the Mulunggang Indigenous Officer Network
  • Have the opportunity for progression when you complete the program

Roles in the Program
