Student Successes
We extend our congratulations to the following students who recently received high honours at the Adelaide Eisteddfods:

  • Annika Ganesh (9SPA) participated in the ‘13 and over Romantic Piano Division’ and received 1st place! Annika also participated in Sonata section and despite receiving a whopping 94 points, the competition was fierce in this division, and she received an honourable mention – an amazing achievement.
  • Yilin (Ella) Gu (8CED) participated in the ‘13 and over Own Choice/Modern Piano Division’ and received 1st place! Yilin also participated in the ’11-16 Years Recital Solo Piano’ division and was awarded an honourable mention.

Yilin attended the 2024 AMEB Award ceremony earlier this year at Elder Hall where she received her Certificate of Performance Piano Certificate. To achieve this level in only Year 8 is a remarkable achievement!

We have many girls undertaking their AMEB Grade level exams in the coming weeks and we wish them all the best.

Year 2 Strings and Year 4 Bands Concerts
On Monday June 17 and Tuesday June 18 we celebrated our budding junior school musicians who performed to full houses on both nights in our Newman Theatre.

On Monday it was all about strings, under the supportive and energetic leadership of our Strings Coordinator Mr Joseph Freer, all of our Year 2 students put on a wonderful short concert for their parents. With our Intermediate String Orchestra performing on the night, and then supporting our Year 2s in the finale, it was a wonderful evening.

Tuesday evening was a slightly louder affair, when our Year 4 girls demonstrated their learning on their band instruments. With our youngest cocurricular band (Junior Band) putting on a ‘cool’ performance with the spy-like ‘Double Oh Eight’, the girls and parents were then entertained by our oldest cocurricular group, the Sax Quartet who played The Chicken and Shake It Off – much to the delight of our ‘swifty’ Year 4s!

Participating in young music immersion programs, such as our Year 2 strings and Year 4 band, offers numerous benefits to our girls. Engaging with music at an early age enhances cognitive development, improves memory, and fosters discipline. Students involved in music programs often demonstrate higher academic achievement and better problem-solving skills.

Music also promotes emotional well-being, providing a creative outlet for self-expression and stress relief. Furthermore, playing in ensembles teaches teamwork, communication, and social skills, helping to build confidence and a sense of community – and it’s fun!

Thankyou to the Music Staff for their wonderful efforts with our girls this semester.
