As Olympic fever has swept the world, I have been reflecting on the significance of this major event for our girls. At the halfway point of the Paris Olympic Games, Australia had its most successful start to the Olympic Games ever, due mostly to the medal tally of the women. There are many valuable take aways from this news.

The implication of the gender parity displayed at the Olympic Games cannot be underestimated. For our female athletes to take this opportunity to prove, on a global scale what we have always known, that women are unstoppable when allowed the space to succeed. This demonstrates to our girls that their dreams are possible. We are steadfast in enabling all our Wilderness students to follow these dreams and find their passions, in any area. But particularly those in which women have historically not been represented.

This week we also celebrated Maths Week. This is an important feature in our annual calendar that provides another strong reminder to our girls that STEM based future roles and careers are not only possible, but enjoyable.

Exceeding in gender equity and empowerment of girls was a vision shared by our much loved staff member, Ashleigh Young. Ash was a sports leader.  As we head toward Intercol Week we are so proud to be working alongside Sport SA and the new Marjorie Jackson Nelson Centre to help give more women the opportunity to lead in sport through the Ashleigh Young Scholarship. You will see this celebrated across our school as well as the Independent Girls Schools Sports Association. If you wish to support this worthy cause, you can find more information here.

Our girls have been fortunate to have been given so many real-world examples of the power of possibility. We know that their experiences at Wilderness show them that by working together as well as working hard, their passions can become their lived reality.
