Year 9 Space Forum Excursion
Recently, many of the Year 9 Space and Robotics students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Australian Space Discovery Centre and attend the 17th Australian Space Forum held here in South Australia. At the Australian Space Discovery Centre, students were enabled to learn about future pathways in the space industry and expand their knowledge in space networking.
We were given an insightful talk about collecting satellite data and more from the brand Speedo, that has incorporated space technology into their swimsuits.
Next, we explored the discovery centre's interactive exhibit, which offered many interesting games and information about our planet and beyond.
We then made our way to the 17th Australian Space Forum held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, one of the largest space exhibitions in Australia. In pairs and groups, students experienced VR, learned about careers in space and gained inspiration from some of Australia's most significant space programs and companies. It was fascinating to learn about lunar rovers and a satellite called Kanyini, whose mission is to collect valuable data for environmental monitoring and scientific research.
This excursion provided us with new insights into the world of Space, Robotics and AI. Thank you to Mr Keller and Mr Sloan for this wonderful experience!

MATHS – The only subjects that counts.
To coincide with the Australian Maths Competition, the Maths Committee and Department held activities during Week 3 to celebrate Maths week. Activities included a Darts competition with Mr Hawkins, a scavenger hunt, a Pi competition and lots of fun activities including logic puzzles, sudoku, board games, and crafts in Maths classrooms over the week. Thank you to Mrs Dawn Davies, the Maths Teachers and the members of the Maths Committee who made the week come to life.
We look forward to celebrating the achievements of the students who participated in the Australian Maths Competition when the results are published later in the year.
Road Safety
Each year, SAPOL trains our Year 6 to 10 students in how to safely complete Traffic Duty at the two School Crossings. Our girls do a great job at monitoring these crossings. The Police Officers remind the girls that if they see something dangerous while at the crossings, they should report it to teachers and call 131444 to report what has happened.
We ask that parents observe all the road rules and parking restrictions around the school and also report any incidents. Keeping everyone safe is a community responsibility.
Middle School Social
The Middle School SRC and Round Square Committee are again hosting the Middle School Social on Friday 16 August, 6.30 to 8.30pm in the Wilderness School Gym.
The ticket price of $20 will cover the cost of drinks, food and entertainment for the evening. You can purchase a ticket for your daughter/s using this Trybooking link. All proceeds from the night will be donated to Round Square to support their service activities.
Student Achievements
Congratulations to Sophie Monk who travelled to Europe with the Young Adelaide Voices’ First Concert Choir to perform at the 27th International Choral Festival in Provence, France. Her choir won first prize in the Youth Choir category, second place in the Sacred Music category, third place in the Folk Music category and went on to score second place in the overall Grand Prix and were awarded the Most Creative Performance Award.
An important reminder that Monday 2 September, Show Day, is a pupil free day at Wilderness School.
