ABODA
The South Australian Bands and Orchestra Festival, presented by ABODA was held in Week 4 across 13-15 of August. The prestigious competition was held at Westminster School and saw bands and orchestras compete against each other from across the state.

Wilderness had an exceptional outing at ABODA, with the Intermediate Strings, Senior Strings and Junior Band each achieving Silver Awards. Concert Band achieved a third consecutive Gold Award in the Intermediate Concert Band section, and our Symphonic Band achieved not only another third consecutive Gold Award, but the overall section winner, repeating this success from 2022 – quite a marvellous achievement with 17 other bands in this section! Thank you to the directors, Joseph Freer (Strings), Paige York (Junior and Concert Band) and Anna Lenartowicz (Symphonic Band) for all of their hard work with the girls.

You can hear all of these ensembles at the upcoming Annual Showcase of Music held at the Adelaide Town Hall on 4 September. Tickets are available via the trybooking link: trybooking.com/CUHKF

Gwen Robinson Piano Competition
On Wednesday of Week 5, the Gwen Robinson Piano Competition for Pianoforte was held in Hender Hall. This prestigious prize is held annually and offered to students aged 17 years and under. This years’ adjudicator was Lucinda Collins, who is a renowned Australian pianist, educator and chamber musician, and is currently the Head of Keyboard at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

11 girls across Years 3-9 bravely took to the stage and performed two pieces each, showcasing their talent. Each girl performed beautifully, and this years’ winner was our youngest competitor – Alisa Gan from 3W. Alisa will receive a medallion in recognition of her achievement and will perform at an assembly at a later date.

A big congratulations to all the girls who performed. It takes a lot of courage and bravery to perform as a soloist and they should be extremely proud of themselves. Another thank you to Lucinda Collins for adjudicating and giving the girls integral feedback, helping them to grow as wonderful musicians.

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s Young Musicians Concert
Congratulations to some of our teachers and students who performed at the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Grainger Studios on Sunday, August 24th.

They were exclusively invited to showcase their talents at the Young Musicians Concert with the feedback overwhelmingly positive, with everyone highly impressed by the promising talents of these South Australian musicians.
