Senior A Football IGSSA Champions 2024
What an amazing afternoon we had at Park 9 on Tuesday 27 August. Our Senior A Football team defeated Seymour in the Grand Final to claim the 2024 IGSSA Shield. It was a performance for the ages!!!

Our Co-captain Sasha Hardin deservingly claimed the best on ground medal for her outstanding game! Sasha was joined by her team mates who all performed outstandingly well and as Sasha put so humbly in her acceptance speech "any of these girls could have also won this award".

In front of a huge Wildy crowd of students, staff and parents our girls followed the game plan and delivered an effort that was undeniable and propelled them to the top of the mountain. This competition showcased some of the best female footballers in the state and our girls showed they are the cream of the crop.

I would like to also take the time to congratulate and thank Brad Snell and Andrew Mittiga for their work regarding this team and the football program as a whole this season. They have put so much time and energy into giving our girls the best possible experience week in week out.

Our assistant coaches were brilliant all season and I must thank Sachi Syme, Sarah Branford and Tom Grech for their tireless efforts this season.

Thank you to Liam Sloan who worked so well with the Senior B group to ensure throughout the season the girls who came up were prepared and were able to slot in to their roles seamlessly.

Winter Intercol
Last week Wilderness competed in it’s annual Winter Intercol Competition against Seymour. During the week our winter sports teams matched up in some hotly contested fixtures. Our Senior A and Premier League teams battled for the Intercol trophies and all the fixtures from Middle School to Senior School counted towards the Overall Winter Intercol Trophy.

The support from the girls and the school community throughout the week was special. Seeing the crowd numbers and hearing the Wildy chants really spurred our girls on. I want to thank every single person who made the effort to attend. Intercol is only as special as the atmosphere and school spirit and Wilderness certainly didn’t disappoint.

Wilderness retained the Debating and Soccer trophies and also reclaimed the Badminton trophy. The final overall results scores for each fixture can be seen here.

I want to acknowledge how well the girls represent our school during the competition. They competed with the highest levels of sportsmanship and effort. They should be very proud.

I also want to thank the amazing Coordinators and Coaches who organised and prepared the girls so well for each and every fixture and gave them the opportunity to perform their best.

Lastly, well done to Jas Thirwell and the Sports Committee for their work in preparing for Intercol. The posters, headbands, supporter buses and crowd incentives were a fantastic touch.

North Adelaide SAPSASA Athletics Carnival
On Thursday 22 of August we took the Wilderness SAPSASA Athletics team to the North Adelaide event at the SA Athletics Stadium.

Our girls in year 4, 5 or 6 performed extremely well and came away with some terrific results.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Isabel Jackson who has just returned from the U20 World Lacrosse Championship in Hong Kong. Australia finished 4th in the World after losing to Japan in the Bronze Medal match. Isabel was strong in her midfield/defensive role, winning 5 centre draws in the final match which earned her MVP for the game. Isabel will now go straight into  finals for Woodville Lacrosse Club this week.

Come and Try Athletics
Recently, our year 7 students participated in a Come and Try Athletics afternoon to prepare them for some of the more technical events in the Middle/Senior School Athletics Carnival. Saints Athletics Club supported our event and are the home club for some of Wilderness’ up and coming athletes. Their flyer can be found here.
