After we said farewell the Year 12 girls at the end of Week 2, they have been busy studying and preparing for their final SACE examinations, which started this week. These exams will run until Thursday 11 November, and we wish all girls the best.
SRC Vision for 2022
This week, the 2022 SRC presented their vision for next year to the School community. The vision presented was ‘Triple A’, which included Adventure, Ambition and Appreciation. Unlike previous years, the SRC has incorporated three words as they believe there is no way to capture the diversity of Wilderness girls in just one word.
So, what do these words mean? Adventure is about pushing your boundaries, trying new things and most of all having fun whilst you’re doing it. Ambition is having a desire to achieve your goals and being determined to be the best version of yourself 100 percent of the time. Finally, Appreciation is about stepping back from the busy lives we live and recognising the things that make us happy. Whether that be a random act of kindness, or simply getting a good night's sleep. We look forward to the SRC bringing their vision to life in 2022.
Road Safety Programs
Over the last month, girls in the Senior School have been exposed to a range of road safety programs relevant to their stage of life. Young drivers are the most vulnerable road users, the statistics are alarming and they are not improving. Unfortunately, people aged 16 to 24 years makeup 13 percent of the population but accounted for 21 percent of all fatalities in SA over the past two years.
The Year 10s heard from SA Police about how to obtain their driver's license and important factors to consider when driving on the road. This week they attended the ‘Save a Life’ presentation run by Darren David. Girls experienced driving a real car on a simulator, which made it very clear that they are likely to be part of our tragic statistics if they display bad driving attitudes.
The Year 11s joined with over 70 schools in SA’s largest youth road safety event, RAA’s Street Smart High. The event was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and focused on improving students’ road safety knowledge, skills and attitudes. The four-hour program included a simulated crash scene, real life stories from people whose lives have been affected by road trauma, and a demonstration on the importance of the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) star ratings when choosing a car.
Year 12 Video
During the Leavers' Assembly on Friday 22 October, a beautiful video of the Year 12 girls' journey this year was shown. The film captured major events this year and was edited by the Media Team. Congratulations to the girls for all their hard work.
The film was also shown at the Valedictory Dinner to our Year 12 girls and their families. Please enjoy the video below.
Creative Arts
Last week I was fortunate to attend the opening night of the Year 11 Drama Production, ‘Little Fish’.
The production focused on the plight of the Port River dolphin pod after pollution wiped out their mangrove swamp, an important food source for the dolphins. The use of multimedia in the production was innovative, creative, and ensured their message was understood by the audience. Congratulations to all involved in this important production.
Next week we look forward to the 2021 Wildy Fringe, which will be a celebration of the Creative Arts and will include presentations from both Middle and Senior School students.
