With the temperature dropping, cool, foggy mornings and receding daylight hours, it means the Winter Sport Season is well and truly here!

Wilderness is proud to have a large representation of students competing in a wide range of sports across our Junior, Middle and Senior Schools.

For the first two weeks of term, our attendance at sport trainings has improved significantly since Term 1, which is encouraging to see. With the weather cooling and the likelihood of rain increasing, it is a timely reminder to all, that sport trainings are always on unless otherwise communicated. If we are unable to train outdoors, coaches may still prefer to use this time to discuss match strategies and tactics or go over other relevant concepts.

Please ensure your daughter always attends training unless otherwise communicated. Weekly selection and match time is considered based on your daughters’ commitment to their sport and teammates.

Please remember that if your daughter cannot attend trainings, it is her responsibility to communicate with her Head Coach or the Sport Department as soon as possible.

Touch

Last Thursday, Wilderness was represented by a selection of Middle School touch players for the first round of the Year 8/9 Statewide School’s Touch Competition.

The girls travelled to Park 17 and played four games against some tough schools, including the Term 1 SACSSGSA Touch Champions, St Peters Girls. Our girls played exceptionally well to win all four of their matches, qualifying as the top seed from their group. Finals will be held on Tuesday 25 May.

Congratulations to our girls and to their coach Ms Marnie Eddington for their results. Best of luck to Mr Brad Snell and the girls competing in the first round of the Open Statewide School’s Touch Competition on Monday 17 May. We look forward to following your matches.

Australian Diving Championships

Last month Layla Balestrin (Year 7) represented South Australia to compete in the 2021 Australian Age Diving Championships held in Brisbane from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 April.

The Australian Age Diving Championships sees each State/Territory send their best squad of selected divers to compete against Australia’s top divers in their respective age groups.

Layla competed in the 12-13 Years 1 Metre Springboard competition and managed to score a personal best overall total to finish an impressive 8th of the 19 finalists.

Congratulations to Layla on her outstanding achievement - even more impressive to put in your best performance on the biggest stage when it matters most.
