Over the last two weeks our Mamie girls have been invited to bring in three very precious items that fit inside a designated ‘All About Me’ bag. They have then been invited to speak about and share these with the class.

The learning intention and value underpinning this project is our School Value of ‘Respectful Relationships’.

As the girls share, the rest of the class listens intently and learns.

They learn about what matters to their friends and how to listen respectfully.

When this learning and these skills are made explicit to the girls, a culture of kindness and support is created. In fact, it goes a step further, and a new Mamie community is created.

While this project was planned with the above intentions, I have no doubt it has meant even more to the families who have helped pack these bags. Perhaps it has provided an opportunity to consider what three special items mean the most to their daughter, and at the same time, perhaps it has been a chance to reflect on times gone by or a moment to delight in how much their daughter has grown and changed.

It certainly has been a touching project, and we are looking forward to learning about our new Mamie friends as they join us over the year.

A Sprinkling of Magic in our Annie House

As an adult, you might not see it, but if you look closely, every year, you will always find a little sprinkling of fairy dust glistening in the gardens of our Early Learning Centre.

Fairies are always welcome in our ELC, and this year, the Annie girls are once again calling their fairy friends to join them by pondering the question of how they will make this happen because as we know, this is a magical and mysterious process.

We will need…

“…fairy dust”- Florence
“…a small fairy garden so the fairies can run around and play.”- Zahra
“…beautiful flowers”- Seerat
“…purple and rainbow flowers”- Avleen
“…a fairy pool”- Monica
“…hanging a fairy home and a fairy swing and a little kitchen”- Sofia
“…to collect the fairies, we would need wings”- Lily F
“…we need a TV, a bed, a lounge and a kitchen”- Ifrah
“…some leaves”- Sibella
“…a fairy post sign, so they can collect their mail”- Isla
“If you make a circle of leaves and flowers and don’t peek, the garden fairies will leave something special”- Lily F

From these creative starting ideas, the fairy garden has started to grow and will continue to be developed by following the engineering process of ‘design, construct and appraise’.

The girls will be encouraged to express their knowledge and ideas through the 100 languages, which may include using pens, clay, paint or other natural materials from our environment.

Keep your ears and eyes open, and you just might see our beautiful fairies.
